RubberDogSh1tOutOfHKG Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Both my attempts at the Glorious Dawn mission have seen me shot out of the sky by the Mig31. I cant seem to shake his missile, even though I turn on ECM, drop Chaff, and drop to the ground. I do not get a Radar Lock before him.
Jayhawk1971 Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 (edited) I didn't do anything particularly heroic or eloquent. I did take the time to bug the MiG on the HSD while running in to drop, so I could find it easily with the HMD and have some visual reference where exactly to turn my nose. Then right after I dropped the JDAM, I switched immediately to missile override, flipped the CAT 1 switch, locked the MiG and fired, then dropped altitude and evaded by cranking hard left to gimbal limits, followed by hard right, again to gimbal limits. While dropping chaff. That seems to have defeated his missile. Fired off a second AIM-120, but the first one got him. Or maybe Scooter got him before the second AMRAAM could get to him? Kinda lost SA somewhat while trying to evade, so I could have very well missed whether or not she engaged as well. I did hear my character say "Splash Foxhound", so I assume, nay, claim that is was my kill. BTW, remember that if you use ECM in mode 3, your radar will stop working while you are transmitting. RubberDogSh1tOutOfHKG Posted December 13, 2024 Author Posted December 13, 2024 I got him on my 3rd try. Again didn't really do anything fancy here either, it was just good luck I got him fast on the radar this time. The first 2 times I didnt get him on radar in time to fire off a missile. Situations like this almost makes me wish for the ability to save a mission state! 1

Evade the missile, get down low, and then use the HMCS and dogfight mode. 1 Facebook Instagram YouTube Discord

One thing the Mig31 isn't famous for is its agility
Jack Chief Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 (edited) I was a bit lucky succeed in the first attempt. Also AI wingman made herself useful (what a suprise :)). So I was going quite fast to JDAM drop point. Immdietly after realese I turn hard to deck and 90 degrees to foxbat, dropping chaffs like hell. Thrust to the Gate, then turning cold to him. I got 600 kts so there was no chance the missle can reach me. Still Mig was chasing me, I've seen on HSD that Scotter is flanking him, quite close, she had him on the fork, easy kill. Good 2 ship tactics , learned it in F-4 in one of Mig Killers Campaign Mission :). Edited December 18, 2024 by Jack Chief 2
Tophatter14 Posted January 5 Posted January 5 No luck for me. Took an STT F-3, down to the deck, in the beam, quite literally in the trees, full chaff dispense with full ECM, just below supersonic, was able to defeat his first missile...and his second missile still got me. Which means he probably maintained radar lock the whole time. Because I never saw him maneuver to defeat my shot, with tally on his contrails. Yeah. Sometimes DCS is far too generous to the AI. Still a good JDAM mission. BUT- Skip and onto the next mission for this guy. Not worth the aggravation factor haha
PawlaczGMD Posted May 9 Posted May 9 (edited) I did it by just burning to drop on the target as fast as possible, then turned into him and fox3 at around 20nm. He fired at the same time, I then notch and drop to the deck, then turn cold. I reviewed tacview, and he stayed hot and died to my missile. His missile wasn't even close, it dropped loads of speed at low alt. I think bringing it down is the key. If I had missed, I'd try to use terrain to turn back in. Hopefully the lead will sometimes get him if he stays hot on you. Mig31 has no fox3 afaik, so they are at a huge disadvantage 2v1. Just defend if he's on you, attack if you're clean. Bonus protip - you can bug a datalink contact on the HSD with TMS up, and it will show an octagon mark on it on the HMD, no radar lock required to see where he is. I pre-bugged him while on my way to the bridge. Edited May 9 by PawlaczGMD 2
