Tank50us Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Now, before I begin, I want to stress that this is more due the introduction of lower-fidelity areas in major maps than anything else. Anyway... moving along... So, for starters, the way I see it being done is similar to the current FARPs, but with a slight twist. For one, the first thing that gets put down is a "control tower", which you'd have several variations. From your typical airport control tower to a makeshift model made out of wood and sandbags. Once that's placed, the player selects the number of runways, the length, and the 'material' (for example, two runways, two mile length, tarmac. or one runway, half mile length, lattice.) Once the runways are placed down, the player can adjust their position and direction. Once the tower and runways are down, the player can go in and add the taxiways, ramp spaces, hangars, and storage. Obviously, ED could also add some 'presets' that give players something quick to throw down, but if this were done, I think it could give mission designers quite a bit of leeway, especially for WW2 where new airbases where quickly thrown together to keep pace with the advances of ground forces. This was mainly done by the Allies (especially in the Pacific), but it is something that has historical precedent. 6
Lace Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 Yes, placeable runways would add a huge amount of value. In many cases the non-modelled air bases are visible in the satellite terrain imagery, so a placeable runaway, some aprons and HASes etc. and you could include all the basing options ED decided to leave out. Even if it is just somewhere to launch and recover from, and not necessarily anything in any great detail or particularly close to the real installation. 3 Laptop Pilot. Alienware X17, i9 11980HK 5.0GHz, 16GB RTX 3080, 64GB DDR4 3200MHz, 2x2TB NVMe SSD. 2x TM Warthog, Hornet grip, Virpil CM2 & TPR pedals, Virpil collective, Cougar throttle, Viper ICP & MFDs, pit WIP (XBox360 when traveling). Quest 3S. Wishlist: Tornado, Jaguar, Buccaneer, F-117 and F-111.

Bonus points if the same tech could be used to create 'cities'. It would certainly be useful when they eventually make the world map since they won't have to worry 100% about the cities. We can add whatever cities we want.
Ramius007 Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 This would be a great thing, allowing to populate map parts that are not modelled, imagine Crimea, but also DLC maps are missing airfields, even in areas that are populated, like Bushehr airfield in Iran 2
krazyj Posted May 9 Posted May 9 @BIGNEWY or anyone else, could we have this please now that we have the option to create helipads to spawn on, seems sad all the FARP points shall be limited to helis. I know one can use roads ect, but would be a great addition to the creative community to add custom airports using the already built in asset packs. all we need are runway slabs and parking slabs really and some taxiway elements I suppose. TIA
