Alexrey Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has any good articles on virtual reality goggle technology. I'm talking about goggles that cover your peripheral vision so that it pretty much feels as though you're IN the game. I've been interested in something like this, but it doesn't seem like anyone sells VRGs that cover your peripheral vision yet. :/
significant Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 I think you can find goggles with wide field of view in the market. But it will cost a lot of money. Think of $20.000 and more.
significant Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 Check this for example http://www.inition.co.uk/inition/products.php http://sensics.com/ This thing looks totally wierd:

joey45 Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 will it stop the alians talking to me..... all it needs is some tin foil.. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. GGTharos Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Anyone find a price tag for those suckers? I'm sure it's up in the 'no way' category. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
EtherealN Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Anyone find a price tag for those suckers? I'm sure it's up in the 'no way' category. 17k to 200k depending on exact configuration according to http://www.inition.co.uk/inition/product.php?URL_=product_hmd_sensics_pisight&SubCatID_=16 Apparently you are also looking at needing four VGA output AND four TH2Go to make them work on a single PC... And that's for the lower-end versions that "only" require 12 800x600 inputs. :P So yeah... EDIT: Oh, and that's in british pounds if I read it right. Shaman Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 (edited) Even better... wide-angle infra-red image of everything around you on top of the real image. That's me, playing with newest Thales toys :) I don't know how they make it that the projected image fits what you see in front so well, but well hell, 21st century! Not virtual reality, but true reality, with enhanced vision! I felt like I had superpowers, hehe... Anyway, just take a look at the design of this helmet, and its size, and projection screen (glass)... it is as big as the VR googles (torture machine) shown in the beginning. Trust me, the helmet was comfortable. Mnemonic Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 (edited) Wow shamandgg, looks really great, such technology that you describe (virtual imagery over real one) is called augmented reality. Wish I have chance to test some of these someday :) By the way, did the unit you show gives you color picture (it's virtual part), or monochrome? About vide FOV HMD's, except Sensics, you can actually look at: http://en.souvr.com/product/200905/1971.html This NVISor MX120 have 120 degree horizontal FOV and solid screens for each eye (not combined from small like Sensics). Of course it's very high cost unit - almost 28k $. I have at home my Vuzix VR920 (which are only 400$ :) ) and pretty happy with them, stereo works great, resolution not so big (640 x 480, can do nice hardware downscale from 1024 x 768 ) but enough for me to fly FSX on small aircrafts, great head-tracking. 32 degree FOV, but it's really affordable. I don't even fly FSX, or play Crysis without them lately :) Stereo imagery combined with 360 degree head-tracking gives big improvement in immersion. Edited July 25, 2009 by Mnemonic
