1. use NVcleanstall and only install Nvidia driver, HD audio and PhysX

https://www.techpowerup.com/download/techpowerup-nvcleanstall/

2. get Nvidia Profile Inspector

https://github.com/Orbmu2k/nvidiaProfileInspector/releases

3. do this (and check and maybe revert former settings for the Digital Combat Simulator Black Shark profile)

So got it working looks like. Now, i can't seem to DISABLE the overlay?
Ok it's done in reg edit

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NGXCore]
"ShowDlssIndicator"=dword:00000000

I would just rename it and leave the value 400 there. No need to remember anything.

BTW: really works for me as well.

Condition: green

Thanks! That’s a solid setup. I’ll use NVCleaninstall to keep the install clean, and will check the DCS profile in NVIDIA Profile Inspector as suggested. Appreciate the tip!

Old news. DCS natively supports this now.

Add the below line to your C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS\Config\autoexec.cfg file to set the DLSS preset, this is still C by default. You will need to create this file if it does not already exist.

DLSS_Preset = 'K'

You can add this line as well if you don’t want DLSS applied to MFDs and HUD to keep them sharp with no ghosting for greater control.

HUD_MFD_after_DLSS = true

That's great, Thanks once again

Quick question:

I tried DLSS Swapper today and changing the DLSS runtime for DCS was suspiciously easy.

Is there a way to verify it is actually working and using the correct runtime?

Just enable the dlls overlay at dlss swapper options and you will see the version thait is running in this moment, with the preset and the scale

DCS now has native support for setting the preset. You can also look in your DCS log file as it will output the preset being used.

Thank you, I just wanted a quick verification that the DLSS swapper worked (which it did) and the Nvidia Driver didn’t overwrite it somehow. (Which it didn’t).

I guess there are several paths to success. 😁

Do you have any recommendations on where else I should be looking if I can't find the autoexec.cfg file in the Config folder?

You need to create it if it doesn't exist as per my instructions.

Also make sure to use something like Notepad++ as Notepad can add a ".txt" extension to the end of the filename which you may not see if your Windows is hiding file extensions.  You'll then wonder for ages why it isn't doing anything 🙂

EDIT: Here's one I prepared earlier.

Thanks for all the help sleighzy. Also, sorry I am an idiot I went back and reread your previous post again this morning. Every time I read it yesterday I read "If you don't have this LINE you will need to create it. Anyway, thanks again for dealing with my terrible reading skills and thank you for the premade file!

EDIT: Would I use the DCS log file to check if DLSS 4 is activated after adding this file? I guess I am just curious what's the best way for me to check if this has been successful?

Yeah look in the log for the word “DLSS” or “preset” (sorry don’t have my log file in front of me). At least one of this lines found will include the word “preset” on that same line, and either be ‘C’ or ‘K’. If it’s ‘C’ then that is the DCS default and means it hasn’t picked up this change. I’ll edit this comment tomorrow with an actual example log line. There are a couple of other presets you can use as well, eg ‘F’ and ‘J’. Can experiment if you want to see if they look better for you. F is older and doesn’t use the new DLSS4.

Does a 4090 work with DLSS4 or is that only for the 5 series?

Works on 4090 as well (I have a 4080super). Actually goes all the way back to versions of the 20xx series.
