aaron886 Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 ...and many Russian airbases can only be described as poorly prepared. It's an interesting (and probably very practical/wise) approach.
Vekkinho Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 The F-22 is heavier (according to information available which is admittedly poor/bollocks) and has a single nose-wheel. Yes but two wheeled Raptor would be even more expensive...They had to cut down the expenses... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Kaktus29 Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 to people who are horrified about the blades of the engine showing and the air intake.. look, russian engineers know this okei.. its not like they haven thought of this..but the new engine they are developing for the Pak-Fa is needed after that they will design the plane with proper stealth intakes.. look at the first Su-27 prototype.. you will cry and throw up a little bit.. but its okei..its prototype.. most of the work needed to be done is in the engine part and passive systems.. and this engine is already powerful enough to give the pak-fa supercruise, its just not wise to do it with this engine for its not built for this purpose.. engine is really strong and good, but it might be used for the Su-35 in the future..while Pak-Fa gets new engine that will give him that 1.4-1.6 supercruise.. with the new intakes of course..

Kaktus29 Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 (edited) also, i like that russian front wheel "dust catcher" )) lol.. i call it that way, don't know what is the official name of that "metallic net" that is designed to cheaply catch the dust from the ground and prevent most of it going into the intakes.. i like the simplicity of the engineers that have done this.. if this would be in hands of usa engineers i can already see 10 million USD research and in the end it would be so complicated it would need its own CPU units and GPU for some reason.. jk though, but not too far from reality.. sometimes doing things simple is the hardest thing to do.. the concept KISS is very hard to follow even though it should be the easiest.. and for that i like russian engineering the best.. the things they can do with that small budget its like magic plus elastic combined into awesome.. Vault Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 F-22??, PAK-FA?? ...Amateurs, check out Iran's new 5th gen fighter. Lol. http://www.buzzpatrol.com/irans-photoshop-howler-raises-questions-over-fighter-jet/ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
starsky396 Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Geez, Irans new plane is really small. Compared to the F-15, Su-27, and F-14s, that thing looks smaller than a ford!
NOLA Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 The more I see it the more it reminds me of the YF-23... I agree that the nose looks a bit like YF-23, but the rest definitely doesn't. As much as i love T-50, i wouldn't mind if the Chinese blatantly copied YF-23. Atleast we would see it fly again...:( Those images were photoshopped. Which ones, exactly?
NOLA Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I will repeat, which pictures do you assume are photoshopped?
marcos Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I will repeat, which pictures do you assume are photoshopped? The ones showing that the engines were visible down the intake AFAIK.
NOLA Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 The ones showing that the engines were visible down the intake AFAIK. I have the original, and it is not a fake.
Thor77 Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 I assume you mean this photo It's hard to tell what is seen in the intake - it looks way too forward for turbine blades - radar deflectors perhaps. @marcos - spin trials chute cover http://dcsskins.wordpress.com/ Your place for custom created DCS World skins. RIPTIDE Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Looks more like guide vanes... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
NOLA Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 that's what we are told, right ;) You are free to believe what you want. :) I know this from a *very* reliable source without going into more detail. Looks more like guide vanes... Correct.
Griffin Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Don't want to be a smart arse but even though they are called turbine engines, the turbine is in the back of the engine and what you see from the front is the compressor or what was already mentioned. You see the turbine blades from the back, not the front.
wilky510 Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Yes but two wheeled Raptor would be even more expensive...They had to cut down the expenses... That wasn't even funny. Do you think a PAK-Fa is gonna be as cheap as they say it will? 'supposed' unit costs put it below the Su-35.... i'd like to see how they pull that off.
