Reverb G1 cable - advise needed

I think the cable of my good old trusty Reverb G1 is busted 

Since yesterday I started to have troubles. It started with a few pixel glitches, then stripes, then lenses started to go black (sometimes only the left eye, then both). When I fiddle with the cable at the head band, it results in the lens screens coming back on, but when I let go and look around, the glitches and black screens eventually come back.

I suspect a cable flaw somewhere here:

As this seems to be the spot reacting the most to the glitches I see in the lenses.

So;

1. Does anyone recognize this issue?

2. Can the cable between the headset and the cable connector be replaced? And if so, does anyone perhaps know where I can get a replacement?

 

Obviously my Reverb (and my pc) is quite old now, so I'm really hoping for a cheap repair

I don't have any issues with mine (so far), but I remember reading some mods people done when their cable went kaput (stuff I researched before commiting to a used unit).

Look into one of these three threads (there may be more around), perhaps it may lead to a solution?

Anyone any idea how to remove the front panel of a Reverb G1?

I see a lot of videos and pictures with the front removed, but non of them show how to actually achieve this.

Fwiw; for whoever is interested:

I managed to do the cable mod as described in the above Reddit links, and it works!!  

Tested for over an hour and it works perfectly again. I didn't even have to recalibrate my PointCtrl (although I still need to reposition the aux buttons a bit for the cable to fit)

Ah, you followed the one with the 3D-printable parts to secure the cable. Nicely done!!  

Now the only thing missing is to hope for someone to get a mod for the WMR issue with updated Windows 11/10 installations..... 
Then it'd last forever, but that's another kettle of fish.
