Help - DCS Steam does not install after latest update - saying "missing downloaded files"

Have tried everything

 

after the most recent DCS update, if i update in Steam, it gets to 99% and then comes up with an error saying " Missing Downloaded Files"

How to fix this ?

Try to exclude all DCS/Steam folders including Saved Games in your Anti-Virus solution. THEN perform a "verify" of DCS in Steam.

Windows Defender Identifies this as a Trojan

Affected items: file: I:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\DCSWorld\Mods\aircraft\F14\bin\F14-HeatblurCommon.dll

This is what's causing the update issue for some. They can't provide a DCS log because they can't launch the application.

Can anyone from ED state officially that this is a false positive detection of malware in the above stated DLL? This is affecting non-steam installs as well.

Having the same problem i opened the mods list and unchecked the F-14 now game updates and I can play. I wasn't flying the F-14 but this is still annoying.

HeatBlur (makers of the module) stated on their Discord server that this is a false positive, apologised for inconvenience to users, and provided the same workaround of excluding the DCS game folder in your anti-virus software and running a repair.null

Yes. It's a false positive. You will need to add a folder exclusion for the entire DCS installation folder in your antivirus software, e.g. Windows Defender. Then repair the game (Verify Files in Steam), or restore that file from your antivirus quarantine. If you do not do a folder exclusion then the file may be quarantined again.

Same problem here with the steam update, but my DCS installation folder has been already in the Defender exclude list for a long time and even verify files in steam doesn't work.

Already did this. DCS is in my Defender exclude list since the F-14 and F-4 issues a while back, the disc i've installed DCS has 1.9 TB free space and verify in steam doesn't really do anything besides tell me that "All 0 files successfully validated". Retry of DCS update gives either a "MISSING DOWNLOADED FILES" or "DISK READ ERROR". Ticket is open #183972.

It is not something that can be solved our side. This is the antivirus not liking the protection and flagging it as not safe because it can not read it.

I think Steam downloads go to a separate folder while being downloaded before being installed.  It seems to be getting caught in that  part of the process so excluding DCS doesn't help because it never gets there.  I believe some have had success in disabling AV while doing the update then reenabling it or else figuring out where that Steam download folder is and excluding it.  I don't use Steam so that's all the help I can give on that.

Yes, the Steam Library can even be multiple places while the default should be:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\apps\Steam Library\ or something

I got the odd Steam state fixed by installing the latest update for the standalone DCS server. Steam then did a successfull rerun of the update for the steam client version and verify in steam succeeded.

Yeah, it's pretty cool the Updater can pull the needed relevant files from multiple locations whether it's Steam/Standalone/Server.

Got it solved as:

- Uninstalled F-14 DLC module from steam.

- Reinstalled F-14

- When getting the same error during a new installation attempt, go to Windows security - protection history - and restore the most recent quarantined item from the history listed as: "SteamLibrary\steamapps\downloading\223750\Mods\aircraft\F14\bin\F14-HeatblurCommon.dll"

- press retry for the DLC in the Steam download section again. Worked for me.

If you had done an integrity check of DCS it would probably have solved it. That must be done AFTER adding exclusions. No exceptions, because the files are missing because they were snagged by the Anti-Virus solution.

Understand! Seems several users are reporting the issue even after the folders have been excluded and performed a repair/integrity checks, not matter Standalone/Steam. Did you try a reboot after making the exclusions? Some have reported the exclusions not kicking in before post reboot.

Sorry, I can't remember if the reboot was done right after making the exclusion. Let's say like... definitely maybe?
