Tbag Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Hi everyone, I just moved house and after setting up my system (only change concerning my system is that I have a second monitor installed) I fired up DCS. The menu appears, I get to the Mission screen and hit fly. After a few seconds I get the following message (translated from German): "Instruction in "0x0f462c00" points to memory in "0x000000000". The command "read" cannot be executed on the memory" This happens with all missions that I tried. I also tried to remove the second monitor but no joy. My system: Windows XP E6600 ENGTX285 Any help would be very welcome. "Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so." - Douglas Adams
Nate--IRL-- Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Only thing I can think of is to open up the computer and check all the cables? something may have loosened during transit. Try using DCSMax to load a mission too. Then maybe a reinstall? Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
nemises Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 run a good memory test (for a long time!), and fully surface scan all of your hard drives .. Reseat ALL hardware (memory, cpu(s), PCI / e cards, USB headers and especially power supply mounts on the system board).
Tbag Posted July 22, 2009 Author Posted July 22, 2009 Thanks for the tips, I'll try that now, wish me luck :) "Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so." - Douglas Adams
Tbag Posted July 22, 2009 Author Posted July 22, 2009 Checked all the connections - no luck. Can you recommend any tools for scanning the harddrives and testing the memory? If I reinstall I'd need one of my activations, right? "Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so." - Douglas Adams
joey45 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 don't think you will... The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. old_red_eyes Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I use memtest86+ for memory testing. The "Ultimate Boot CD" has this and also hard disk tools depending on the make. Alternatively you might be able to get a disk tool direct from the manufacturer. Maybe the problem is related to 2nd monitor?
joey45 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 does everything else work? The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Tbag Posted July 22, 2009 Author Posted July 22, 2009 @joey: Yes, everything else works fine. No problems with any other games/application. @ o_r_e: Thanks for the info, got memtest86 now and will run it tomorrow. Thanks again for all the help! Hope I'll be 'flying' again soon! Tez Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Try unplugging all input devices except mouse and keyboard. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] =653=Tez
Tbag Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 Thanks Tez, I just tried that but still no joy! I'll try and test my memory now. "Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so." - Douglas Adams
