Martallica Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Getting lots of crashes lately. Every thing is up to date. This might be a psu problem, but I don't know so any help would be much appreciated. dcs.log-20250221-205600.zipdcs.log-20250228-220245.zipdcs.log-20250301-205100.zipdcs.log-20250301-230725.zipdcs.log-20250315-224546.zipdcs.log-20250322-221646.zipdcs.log-20250329-215325.zipdcs.log-20250329-221107.zipdcs.log-20250405-205826.zipdcs.log-20250411-185811.zipdcs.log.olddebrief.logdcs.log
hornblower793 Posted April 13 Posted April 13 Do these crashes happen at the same point each time? If you think it might be the psu (or any component) have you tried running a stress test program? 1 Windows 11 Home ¦ Z790 AORUS Elite AX motherboard ¦ i7-13700K ¦ 64GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5 memory @ 5600MHz ¦ Samsung 990 Pro 1TB SSD for OS, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB SSD for DCS ¦ MSI GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming X Trio 24GB ¦ Virpil WarBRD base with VFX grip, Thrustmaster A10c and F/A-18 grips ¦ VKB Gunfighter Mk4 and MCG Pro ¦ Thrustmaster Warthog Throttle ¦ VKB STECS Throttle ¦ Virpil TCS rotor base with Shark and AH-64D grips ¦ MFG Crosswinds ¦ Total Controls Multi-Function Button Box ¦ Pimax Crystal
Martallica Posted April 13 Author Posted April 13 No they happen pretty randomly, but always in campaigns. I didn't stress test cause I'd imagine I'd need to have all my winwing stuff plugged in and running, but I suppose I should do that? I do have powered USB for HOTAS,MFD's UFC and Screens.
Leg2ion Posted April 13 Posted April 13 @Martallica Out of curiosity what size PSU do you have, and when you say crash - is it just DCS or the whole PC goes into a shutdown/reboot? Where is the power to the USB coming from - is it a separate mains supply or also out of the PC? Have you upgraded anything recently (either software or hardware), and tried removing any mods you may be running? When you say campaign - which one and which aircraft are you flying? I had similar last year and it was purely down to overheating - initially fixed by popping the side of my case off and directing a small USB powered fan into it. Permanent remedy was to upgrade my cooling fans in my case (and hoover out all the dust from the intakes!). 1 AMD Ryzen 5 5600X; ASUS ROG Strix X570-F, Corsair Vengeance 64 GB (2x 32GB) 3600MHz; Seagate FireCuda 510 500GB M.2-2280 (OS); Samsung 860 EVO 2TB M.2-2280 (DCS); MSI GeForce RTX 3090 SUPRIM X 24GB OC GPU. Martallica Posted April 13 Author Posted April 13 It's a 850w Evga, just DCS 90% of the time but sometimes the PC will restart. The USB hub's have their own mains power supply. There's nothing up graded on the PC but I have added a third winwing screens and MFD recently. I fly the Hornet and Viper as for Campaigns WOS 1 and 2, Arctic Thunder F16 and F18, but those where crashing so I thought I'd try an older one, so I got Rise of the Persian Loin but this was worse. Heat is not a problem. My system has a water loop and never gets higher than 65c ( 150F ) on the the CPU or GPU. I clean and blow out the PC regularly and I've updated the Bios, windows and GPU. By the way The GPU is a RX 6800 and the CPU is a Ryzen 7 5800x and I've got 32 Gb of ram.
silverdevil Posted April 13 Posted April 13 @Martallica hello. i dropped your log from 4/11 crash into analyzer. Errors Hot plug Events Disable hot plug in your CONTROLS section. Your DCS has crashed The crash occurred inside edCore.dll. PLEASE REMOVE ANY CUSTOM MODS FIRST AND CHECK, IF THE ISSUE PERSISTS! If that does not help: Try a !repair. Delete Saved Games\DCS\fxo and metashaders2 and try again. Next, delete %LOCALAPPDATA%\TEMP\DCS and try again. Next, try renaming Saved Games\DCS to DCS.old and try again. Carry out the suggested repair steps one after the other. If all fails, open a !support ticket. Tuning Tips Set Preload Radius to max. 60000. Tuning tips are recommendations for better FPS based on your CPU, GPU and RAM. They might result in slightly decreased display quality. 1 AKA_SilverDevil Join AKA Wardogs Email Address My YouTube “The MIGS came up, the MIGS were aggressive, we tangled, they lost.” - Robin Olds - An American fighter pilot. Leg2ion Posted April 13 Posted April 13 @Martallica In addition to SilverDevils - are the crashes occurring only after adding the third MFD? Just a thought if thats been added and then the crashes started occurring? PSU 850w should be enough but not sure of the draw of all your various peripherals? PSU failures can be a pain sometime to troubleshoot. I have been adamant my GPU was up the swanny previously due to the symptoms and it turned out to be the PSU. 2 AMD Ryzen 5 5600X; ASUS ROG Strix X570-F, Corsair Vengeance 64 GB (2x 32GB) 3600MHz; Seagate FireCuda 510 500GB M.2-2280 (OS); Samsung 860 EVO 2TB M.2-2280 (DCS); MSI GeForce RTX 3090 SUPRIM X 24GB OC GPU. sleighzy Posted April 14 Posted April 14 (edited) Numerous varying issues showing up in those logs. There is one from your Winwing scripts, although a rename of the Saved Games would remove that script, I don't know if it's related. The Winwing script errors seem to show up around the same time and the error stack trace of the crash does indicate doing something with lua. This is the Saved Games\DCS\Scripts/wwt/wwtExport.lua file. Other issues from the DxDiag logs: Memory Timing Issues Remove any overclocking (XMP) from your RAM. The DxDiag logs show issues for Winwing, TrackIR5, SimAppPro, WWTStream so potentially a larger problem overall. Repair your Windows by running the following each of the following commands and then restarting your PC. These need to be from a command prompt run as administrator. dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth sfc /scannow Also noted in the DCS log analyser from the DxDiag logs: Microsoft Update / Store issues Make sure you have enough free disk space. (based on your logs this looks to be fine) Run the wsreset.exe command in a command prompt to reset the Microsoft Store cache. I also see you have dropped your own dxgi.dll file in the bin-mt directory, there's only a couple of reasons for doing this, but could potentially remove till this is resolved. sleighzy Posted April 14 Posted April 14 (edited) Speaking of the bin-mt directory this is now just for backwards compatibility as DCS is all multithreaded. Use the DCS exe (or standard DCS shortcut) for the one in the bin directory. There were also known issues with Winwing MFDs if running DCS as administrator so if you're using your own shortcut then make sure "Run as Administrator" isn't ticked on the compatibility tab of the shortcut. The log analyzer also says to disable hotplugging in the DCS controls settings. This may already be disabled (disable if not) in which case it can be due to USB power issues. I can see unplug events for TrackIR in one of the logs. You mentioned a PSU power problem, and have a lot of peripherals plugged in. Also turn off power management in Windows Device Manager for your root USB controllers. Leg2ion touched on this above. Could try unplugging these additional peripherals and see if the issue persists. The game can crash for users for many many different reasons. I’d recommend you raise your own post along with the DCS log file containing this (and other dcs.log-<timestamp>.zip files) for this. Alternatively you can drop them in the Eagle Dynamics DCS Discord server in the #dcs-log-analyzer channel. 2 AMD 7800x3D, 4080Super, 64Gb DDR5 RAM, 4Tb NVMe M.2, Quest 2
