To all developping experts here: Is it possible to convert an Air Base from another flightsim (P3D) into DCS?

Hi all,

with the upcoming CW Germany map I wonder if it is possible to convert a complete air base (or at least parts or objects of it...) into the DCS world.

I did develop RAF Brüggen representing the cold war era for the flightsim P3D and would provide it for use in DCS. This would go really well together.

Please let me know.

Hi Manschy,

I've converted some arma 3 huts for Vietnam War Vessels. The process was pretty straight forward using Blender, and Tobsen's edm exporter, and hi-jacking a config from Vietnam Asset Pack by Eightball and Tobsen. 

Do you want to present the different buildings as statics in the Editor, or do you plan a complete scenery, or maybe both?

Hi TeTeT,

got in contact with Gregory some days ago and did contact you also today via discord. So maybe it will be possible to get at least many objects of RAF Brüggen into DCS and team them with possible DCS library objects to get a proper RAF Brüggen air base. But maybe we can make it possible to get almost the complete base into DCS....

I think RAF Bruggen may be included in the 2nd or 3rd updates for the Germany Map.  Looking at their update plan they appear to be adding quite a bit of real estateto the west of Gutersloh.

How about doing as Oban suggests instead - a UK German Airfield asset Pack - there are very few vehicle and/or airfiled buildings asets of that kind in the game.  They would be very welcome.

I am looking forward to see what you are able to come up with @Manschy.  I appreciate Ugra for creating the map, unfortunately, they are not able to create the individual characteristics and soul of each airbase.  They all feel the same, as most buildings and hangars are the same.  Very few specific details.  As such, I think creating an "Object Library" first, and then using those to create a scenery Template may be the only way forward.  Basically what you would do is use the Mission editor to delete the Vanilla objects that you want to replace, then Hand place all your custom buildings and objects.  Once you are satisfied, then you can save as template, and share with the community if you like.  One should be able to delete most if not all of the UGRA buildings on site, but you will have to work with their Runway and Apron layout.
