R. Winters Posted May 1 Posted May 1 (edited) Dear E.D or other Developers. I as well as many in the community think it would be nice to see a Southern California map. Ideally taking place when Miramar was a Navy owned installation DISCLAMER: This is a proposal for a new map, not an announcement of one in development!! Approximately a 400 x 200 mile map (Could expand to include NAS China Lake and NAS Lemoore) Key features: NAS Miramar- Home of Top-Gun and the Navy's Pacific fleet fighters and E-2's NAS North Island- Home of S-3's, Helos and other aircraft. Edwards AFB- Home of USAF Test and Evaluation George AFB- Home of F-4E and the 'Wild Weasel' Mission Yuma Tact's Range- Range used for A2A and A2G training by Navy and Marine aircraft. MCAS/NAS El Centro- Base that USN/USMC Pilots trained at Pt. Mugu- Home of the USN Test and Evaluation Pacific Ocean expanding 200+ miles outside of San-Deigo for ship and carrier operations many other features.. Cool things you could do with this map: Make a Top Gun campaign based out of Miramar Make a Wild Weasel F-4E campaign out of George Practice F-14/F-4(B/S/N), F-8 carrier ops out in the Pacific Ocean (F-4 and F-8 are on the way) Make a campaign based out of Pt. Mugu where you go from flying USN F-4's with VF-103, to flying F-4's and being one of the first VX-4 pilots to fly the F-14 Tomcat. Then Transition to being CVW-14 LSO abord Enterprise for the first deployment with VF-1 and 2. (Rodger Ball- John Monroe "Hawk" Smith) Endless opportunity's!! null Would love to see this in the future!! 1 hour ago, R. Winters said: Dear E.D or other Developers. _Hoss Posted May 1 Posted May 1 You would need NAS Fallon for Top Gun, and Strike U. MCAS Miramar is now mostly USMC. NAS North Island has the other USN aircraft. All the F/A-18s are at Lemoore, along with the F-35s. Sempre Fortis
R. Winters Posted May 1 Author Posted May 1 (edited) I had in mind 1980's Miramar! Pre Marine Corps ownership. I'm sure if this was a map you could do both. MCAS Miramar with hornets and F-35's or Nas Miramar with the F-14/F-4/F-8..etc More people would support and buy the map if it was peak Miramar with the F-14's. The hype of the F-14 and the original Top Gun would be a major selling point- and would be better marketing wise then USMC F-18's at Miramar. That's my opinion at least Edited May 1 by R. Winters 4

That's my opinion at least Yes, around 1970-1985 was the heyday at NAS Miramar. I lived near there during that time up 2022. When it changed hands in 1993 to MCAS, the excitement died down. There was lots of flying activity in the 70s and 80s! I used to watch 'em fly over my house nearly every day. I just think modeling it about 1980 would be best. Fightertown USA, Top Gun. Of course, it's DCS! You could base a bunch of F-16s or MiG-21's there if you wanted to. Maybe extend it east to include Tucson/Davis-Monthan rather than north to China Lake and Lemoore? China Lake should be added to the Nevada Map...it really should. Give 500nm of ocean. Make it about 850nm east-west and 200nm north-south...just a thought. Avoid detailing the cities of Los Angeles and Phoenix to save HD space (so it's not a 300 GB map!) and keep framerates up. Just satellite images for those cities. So, roughly 400nm x 200nm of land. Maybe the size could be kept down to 80 GB?

A wish is a wish but your expectations are unrealistic. They don't make ultrawide type of maps in DCS. The city with just a flat satellite image texture is not acceptable either especially as well modeled LA or Frisco would be a major selling point. What is the reason they don't make 4x1 aspect ratio maps in DCS?

It's not a side-scrolling game. 200nm works fine for Caucasus though. Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria
