A quick search found nothing; surprised though, kind of thought this might be a common request... perhaps I'm missing something?

Right now, I have to completely exit and reenter DCS to switch between 2d (mission editor, primarily - not fun for big changes when in VR), and flying (VR). And it is lengthy to both stop and to restart. I don't care for the MSFS interface at all, but they do make it convenient to switch back and forth. I assume there are basic reasons why DCS can't do the same, but perhaps... some way to make it less painful?

As an alternative option until ED ever decides to support fast switching, you might look into what the DCS Web Editor team is up to?  They're working on a mission editor for DCS which runs in a web browser, which would let you alt-tab and leave DCS running in VR mode.

not an ideal solution, but better than relaunching the game.

Thanks. At least I know now. And, though I'd like to look at that DCS Web Editor, so far, I've only found ways to upgrade and don't see how to obtain anything to test.

On April 13th I proposed this. It would be a simpler way of greatly helping VR users without need for a hot swap:

Basically you decouple headset mirroring while in the menus, which would mean you could pull off the headset and just see the menu on your monitor and move the mouse around. Project Cars 2 & Automobilista 2 implement it this way, and it works fantastic.

They offer a 7-day free trial, but you have to subscribe to their Patreon and then pay monthly after then.

I wish they would offer a trial without requiring a Patreon account.

It's been asked before several times. I doubt it will happen.

It has been asked several times, but the noisy wheel gets the greese. In this case, they're rewriting DCS to fit into the Vulkan framework. Who knows - if this request has met the ears of the devs/decisions makers enough times and they see an opportunity to implement this into DCS with the change - we may get it.

Alternatively, @dsc106's approach of having an option/toggle to stop the mirror from moving while in menu's is a pretty clean workaround as well. IDK how many players are VR based, and whether VR is on the rise or not - but it would definitely be nice to have this implemented.

Agreed. There are few apps that better show off VR than DCS (especially if you are in a helo), so it would be a magnificent boon if the experience in DCS matches its abilities. Switching live between Flat and VR is something that notorious Mission Editor users like I would really, really appreciate.
