Sorry for that, but I think the reason why this becomes a rabbit-hole everytime is the fact that the terms doesn't tell what many people think they tell. So people can put into what they want and start arguing about the nature of DCS using this terms. 1

Cause I listen via computer and start it via mouse and keyboard? I don't mean to troll you. I want to show the problems when you try to define things in a way it will be: 1. widely accepted 2. useful as a definition cause it tells you something about the nature of the subject. 1
Lace Posted July 9 Posted July 9 FWIW a game has rules, boundaries and fairness. Chess is a game, Backgammon is a game, Tetris is a game. DCS is more like a toy, there are no inherent rules on what you can or can't do beyond the limitations of the modules and physics engine, there is no in-built fairness, and if a server has a blue bias, then that is down to the individual creator. Some people try to use it like a game (PVP A2A tournaments for instance), some use it as a toy (Grim Reaper's YT channel a prime example, or flying a Viper from an Essex-class carrier). There are loads of servers out there and I'm sure you can find one which caters to your needs, and if not, start your own. There is no right or wrong however, and ED is under no obligation to match red vs blue capabilities (and has repeatedly stated that it is not possible to do so anyway). Always worth remembering - militaries are not built on 'fairness'. If you find yourself in a fair fight, someone screwed up in planning. 2 Laptop Pilot. Alienware X17, i9 11980HK 5.0GHz, 16GB RTX 3080, 64GB DDR4 3200MHz, 2x2TB NVMe SSD. 2x TM Warthog, Hornet grip, Virpil CM2 & TPR pedals, Virpil collective, Cougar throttle, Viper ICP & MFDs, pit WIP (XBox360 when traveling). Quest 3S. Wishlist: Tornado, Jaguar, Buccaneer, F-117 and F-111.

A rule doesn't need to be man-made to exist. 1

No, you're trolling. There's no "problem". If that fits for you, fine. But that doesn't define it has to fit for me too when I have arguments why it doesn't. You can label it trolling then, but what you do in fact is avoiding to answer the questions cause you don't want to think about it. And that's fine as well. But if you don't have to add something to the questions, then maybe just leave the discussion. Edited July 9 by SteelPig

I believe you know the answers already and I don't find your questions about PS5 or podcasts relevant to the topic at hand. No, I don't. Cause at the moment there is no final answer to the question what a video game is. There are some definitions, every one of them with it's own problems. My questions were a tool to show you the problems of the definition you offered. And I already told you that. 1
