Sorry for the late reply ive been working away. Theres some very good ideas and help here, i will have a go and keep you all updated. Issue i also have is when the tanker says hes at X speed and X height, how do you what height to be at when below the tanker? Do the LEDs under rhw tanker indicate this or are they just forward and back and left and right?

You don't need tankers exact altitude, you just need its altitude to find it easier, cause you would need to know which altimeter setting the tanker is using etc,

the led lights on the right side are indicating if you are ahead or behind the correct position and those left side led lights are indicating if you are too low or too high.

Page 154 in the F-16C manual explains this.

You also might have more success if you set the tanker's speed at which RL aircraft refuel at: each aircraft has their own ideal speed where the controls are responsive but not too responsive, and physical limitations such as refuelling doors getting damaged when deployed/retracted above a certain speed.
If I remember correctly, an F-16 prefers to refuel at 310-320KIAS, whereas Navy maintainers ask pilots to not deploy the F-18's probe above 275KIAS to avoid damage.

Forgot about VR:\ No zoom command there.
ED needs to step up the AAR visual references and quality indeed.

Best of luck!

There is a 2 staged zoom in VR. I am using it all the time. However it's not that easy to find, because as usual the command is using some cryptic explanation. When I am home I can dig it out. There 's even an unzoom regarding cockpit position for a wider field of view.

Another hint how to improve AAR: don't use rudders once under the tanker, use gentle inputs, anticipate movement and try to narrow your F16 down to correct speeds and position. If you lose connection or can't connect most of the time it's speed related.

Don't stay fixed on the tanker's alitutde, like Furiz wrote, but I'd like to add you don't even need your tanker's speed! Once you are in his "sphere" nothing matters anymore, just your position in relation to his. Try flying with eyes focused far, like you are driving in a very narrow lane just between a truck and the guard railing: You notice that if you keep you eyes fixed on closer points like the truck wheels or the railing you tend to PIO. Relax and steer from the corner of your eyes.

It resides under the UI Layer: Names have changed over time...
