Help to understand why JTAC does not work ! (eternal issue)

Hi,

Really get upset with JTAC for long time already.

In attached, a very short mission and track (F-16 - Afghanistan - no mod).

The JTAC is very close, no obstacle, and report TYPE 3 no mark!

How is it possible?

Hi, 

you are using infantry, and they are not IR or Laser capable. 

Try using a unit like the armed HMVEE, set them to hold fire, and invisible and it will work.

Thanks for the reply.

I am working on a complex mission. Some infantery JTAC are IR capable, some are Laser capable, some others are unable to do anything.

The HMVEE is working but difficult to hide in a city!

Any chance to have an update of the infantery JTAC in order to the same capability of vehicles?

Frankly what would be nice:
A little indication in the ME when setting up a unit to act as JTAC on what it is capable of or not.

Once again, Type 3 no mark with an HMVEE, JTAC in auto, no obstacle. Track and mission attached.

Definitively a non-sense.

Any ideas?

in advanced waypoint actions for the HMVEE designate is set to auto, try laser.

I tried, but when I select IR or Laser, the JTAC start talking and then stop. And does not answer anymore.

Strange, 

change the vehicle to a stryker or abrams and see if the behaviour is the same?

Exemple :

Normal volume : JTAX (Axeman11): Enfield 1, this is Axeman 1-1 ...

Volume decrease (like very far) : ... type 3 in effect. Advise when ready for 9-line.

Then does not respond anymore.

I just watched the track, the JTAC replies as expected. 

 

can you attach your dcs log so we can look for other clues

I made some test on Nevada map (flat terrain without obstacles).

JTAC set to laser : Type 3, no mark (TEST JTAC NTTR).

JTAC set to AUTO : Type 2, IR mark (TEST JTAC NTTR IR).

Your track with IR works for us.

Setting weapon to Auto and designation to Laser should also work. 

Im not sure why you are having difficulties.

I'm sorry if you did do it in your track. I am currently away from my computer so I cannot check your track as of now.

Just to make sure, after he sais advise when ready etc. for some reason, you have to wait a good few seconds before you reply. If you reply too quickly, he will ignore it. So wait like 5-10 seconds before replying, then he should continue as usual.

The problem is the JTAC have a lot of difficulties to use the laser, close or far from the target. 99% of the time is IR or no mark. And I have no idea why.

That's what I am doing, waiting few seconds between coms (not waiting does not change anything).

I did some more test. During the night, the JTAC report Type 3, no mark. Daytime, the JTAC report Type 2, marked with WP. Any reason for that?!?

There is definitely something wrong with JTAC.
