Hi guys, I'm not sure whether I'm doing something wrong here, but yesterday I started a multiplayer server just for myself to try some of the MP maps. Now after a while on every flight I made - the Shkval just suddenly blackened out. The effect is best described as a black filter in front of the Shkval camera. You still can see through, but it's all extremely dark. I still could mess with contrast and brightness and it helped. The rest of the mission was fine. On next flight, the same happened. Will investigate it further this weekend to give you exact procedure that led me into it.

Did anyone experience anything like that ? Maybe there is some key command I happened to press ? Is it something I'm missing or a bug ?

be sure your RPM is not dropping below 80% .... if that hapens, anything driven directly by AC (ie the IT23 display) will go dead..

You should have also heard several alarms, and a "low rpm" warning.

Make SURE that your throttles are set in the "Auto" position at all times (twice with pg-up), and that you don't have the throttle axis mapped to an axis (or if you do, make sure you know what you are doing!...auto setting with keyboard is fine for 99.9% of us).

If it's not that, then are you flying at night?...the shkval can be very difficult to see through at night, and can "fade out" when leaning left or right using the NVG's...

If it's not that, then be aware that the IT23 will periodically (every 5 mins or so) show a test pattern for auto callibration..

if its none of those, then I dunno sorry

is the thing that puzzles - "can still see through" - aka you can still see some pictures from whatever you have targeted.

Sounds like some uncommanded keypresses (or other software that assists you commanding the chopper) have tuned down the brightness for you.

Profiler software?

.....or a bug ?

Possibly.......

Be sure to avoid swarming Locusts, and use the Shkval-Wiper to clear excessive Post-Strike Debris and Dentritus :smartass:

Apologies - Could not resist :D

I read you guys loud and clear.

- No, it's a day mission.

- RPM is fine.

- Throttle is fine.

- Wipers play no role in this.

- No other software running (except XP and its own stuff).

- I'll post track if I encounter the same problem tomorrow night.

Thanx for your answers.

Hi, this is my track file. It's probably not the most graceful flight ever, so please do not comment on that part, I'm still learning. :) Near the end you will notice the Shkval going all dark. If all you see is total black, adjust your brightness on your monitors, you will see Shkval still operates, just lost the brightness and/or contrast. I'm not aware of any weird key combinations I pressed at that specific moment nor of any important changes on the battlefield. That's it - I'm not sure what happened.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanx!

I've had something similar happening a few times..it puzzled me too, till I found out it was (naturally) my own fault.

I always use the muse to pan around the cockpit. I use the scrollwheel to zoom in and out on environment and controls. Here's the catch: the wheel also turns the twisting knobs on the panels. Turns out that when I have my view centered, the aiming-cross of the mouse rests somewhere on...the Shkval contrast knob. By zooming in and out I was sometimes unintentionally adjusting the contrast!

Hope my stupidity helps you..It never helps me...

You accidentally used the mouse wheel to zoom in/out while in the clickable mouse/mouse look mode on one of the contrast/brightness knobs behind the stick.

Otherwise, gfx driver issue.

Scorpion: Thanx man, I didn't know things happen for reasons. :)

All: Yes, it was the issue with rotating knobs. I personally use click and drag to turn them and so overlooked the mousewheel turning.

However I rise the suggestion to include a switch somewhere that would allow mousewheel action on knobs to be turned off while in the rotate/zoom/click mouse mode, as it can potentially badly influence your mission outcome.

Thank you guys, may the Gods of rotors bless your flights!

Offcourse, I never use the 'muse' to pan around...it's actually 'the muse' that pans me around....

Then again, my muse doesn't have a scrollwheel...as far as I can tell..So i guess you caught my drift.

Sometimes I just have to stop making sense..By the way, does anyone know when A10c is coming?

Stop typing your reply guys, I was only joking...:D

Same Issue

I had the same issue with my Shkval going dark but still barely legible the other day.

But I recognized it was something to do with me and my new rudder pedals.

Before takeoff, I was leaning a bit on one pedal, making my chopper do a bit of a cheek slide on the tarmac.

I guess I rubbed my camera in the dirt and/or damaged the optics somewhat.

I know this doesn't help the original poster of this issue, but it might help others who may experience this issue some day too.

At least it is one more variable to consider if/when your Shkval is darkend.
