Triangle99 Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I just built a new gaming machine for here at home (a second one - same as my sig except a GTX285 and only one monitor) for LAN play with friends etc and it just occured to me that with a second copy of BS I might just be able to run a dedicated server most of the time with it while I am at work etc. What sort of upstream bandwidth would I need (I get 384kbps up and 7616kbps down)? Feasible? Useful? Fudd Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 This questions probably belongs in the multiplayer section. You should be applauded for your willingness to host a dedicated server. The community could use more diversity in the online arena. Unfortunately 368kbps up stream will not be fast enough but to host maybe one or two clients without lag. Most of the DCS servers you see online right now use at least 1MB up/down with the top end running 60MB up/down. It will probably function perfectly as a 4 person Co-op dedicated server. The code is probaly in Russian anyway.
Quirkitized Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Your upload is around 40kb/s with that speed. You should be able to host a 4 player server without much problem, as DCS uses about 4-6kb/s per client. However, it wont leave you much headroom to do things outside hosting a server. As you stated, you should probably only run it when not using bandwidth for other things, like while at work or sleeping. 2
Kurtz Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I often host on that speed Triangle. Set it up as a 5 slot server(one slot for server) and load it with 4 slot coop missions and install Acedy's serverman package. Generally clients are using around 7kbs up, depending on the mission.

Sounds like a plan :-) I will acquire a 2nd copy in the next week and have a go at setting it up. Thank you to everyone who responded ... these forums are helpful +1.
