What is the secret to getting aircraft to not peel off when they should be patrolling the search area and only responding to enemy entering the zone? Instead of just taking off after anything within their search radar range...

Search and Engage in Zone does not seem to provide what it implies.

hello. can you share the MIZ you are using? if it is a big mission with a lot of units, give some specifics of the flight in question.

Make sure you have any task such as CAP or SWEEP deleted from the list of tasks and only have the search and engage task enabled (with whatever the enabling condition is - if there is one).  The AI will disregard any limitations on the "search and engage" enroute task if there is a task such as CAP enabled.

Here is the file. It's a work in progress and i can't get the Blue AI Patrol Secondary, Blue AI Patrol, Blue AI Patrol 2, same names on the Red side (e.g. Red AI Patrol 2), to stay inside the patrol area. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the delay in responding!

Tried that. Still seems to be an issue.

Hi Silverdevil.
This is a more current version I've been working on. Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated. The units might be set as return fire in this version while I was working stuff out. Regardless, I can't get them to stay in the zone.

Have you set them to orbit somewhere near?

"Search and engage in zone" does not govern their flight regime. Only engagement. Anything outside is ignored, while inside the zone they need to have positive detection by the AI.

Found problems in the last .miz you shared. At least with 1 blue flight.

  1. Remove the CAP tasking.
  2. Make only 1 or 2 waypoints and set the AI to orbit. Here you have 1 through 6. On the end of this path you have a "switch to waypoint 2" command, which would make it perform an orbir in theory, yes.

On the other red flights you don't have the CAP tasking. Does them still peel off after reaching the end of their waypoints? Have a go with the orbit style above. Orbit on wp 1, racetrack pattern.
