Well, present day has some benefits. Like Rafales. New "opportunities". Depends who like what more. This is virtual world after all. Everything will still be fictional.
90's war is perfect scenario for ARMA3. For DCS, not much.
I guess you haven't seen all the requests for more Cold War content, Korea and Vietnam, right?

I did and I am one of guys who would like Vietnam. Since I also have MiG-21Bis. But what's that got to do with my comment? I meant for Yugoslav theater.

You replied to a post that wanted a 90-2K map. So I assumed you said 2025 was better.
I'm in the 90-2K camp.

Oh. I did not pay attention where I was posting. But I am ok with both worlds.

If only we will get M variant. It will most likely be late C variant, like MSFS will be getting soon.

It might be a C, but I doubt it'll be a "late" variant. MSFS doesn't model combat systems, meaning they can fiddle with engines and whatever. For DCS, they will likely be forced to "downgrade" the aircraft to a mid-2000s standard, as to avoid having to add any non-public stuff.

I mentioned arma because most fighting was done on the ground. Air force had the least involvement. And we are missing some crucial attack aircrafts from that time.

Aircraft were most definitely heavily involved, particular NATO ones in OAF. In fact, that's the primary reason why anyone wants this theater. The Mudhen is now in limbo, but it was notable for flying missions there. We're missing some aircraft, but F-15, F-16 and MiG-29 all played their part.

I too would like late 90s' map but I think more important is the ground quality. I supported Sinai from the announcement and then I left it after the first major update as I totally did not like copypasta that was so evident from the up high and lack of quality down low. I will hold with my purchase before I see the map reviews this time around.

Agree!
I've read all the negativity ORT has received for various reasons. It's understandable and some of the constructive criticism is on point!
UGRA is praised up to the sky these days, but do people remember Normandy when it was first released? It did receive quite some criticism at the time. And that was a "fairly tiny" map. Now, we have Normandy 2.0, Syria and Germany+. And all of them are great.
The South-Atlantic map was heavily criticised, and now it's praised, (by those of us that have it).
In other words, I do have high hopes for ORT and the new Balkan map. I'm sure they're developing new tools/techniques that can be recycled in Sïnai.

Cheers!

This!!! I know ORT was rightly criticised because of the Sinai map but ORT deserves a second chance and I am sure they will develop a fantastic Balkan Map 🙂

IMHO, the 90s map would be a preferred choice as it could also function as an 80s map basically and would thus have potential for some fictional Cold War scenarios, involving the Yugoslav Army.

OK, I'm biased here as I don't have any interest in re-enacting recent actual conflicts.

Though, I presume it's easier to make a present day map satellite-textures availability wise..
