For me, that would be a good way to go. If a player (or server admin) doesn't want to use newer weapons, nobody forces him to.

But documentation with the introduction dates of the several missile variants would be much appreciated. As would be older Sidewinder variants - I reckon in the 80s, there were older AIM-9 than the Lima model still in service (?).

I could be wrong, but IIRC, only on the very first cruises. Everything I've seen from mid 80s upwards was at least a Lima. And the Iranian variant isn't really going to be that early a variant either, rather a make-believe adaptation of 135 Early, to make it cosmetically more interchangeable with the exported variants. People need to manage their expectations a bit.

I think the B was the most simulated variant in sims when I was growing up, followed by the D. Which made me long for the A quite a bit.

They never said anything about engine changes. It's the same old TF30-P-414A.
