Hey guys, it seems to me that when I try and use my Nvidia Control Panel to set the AA and so forth, it doesn't work. Which exe. do I need to use for black shark? Right now i'm using "launcher.exe"...I basically used the link on the desktop. Is that the right one? Any help would be great!

I am having the same issue, cannot seem to set up my settings for Black Shark in programs for Nvidia control panel, and get them to work. Saw this thread and tried pointing it to DCS.exe, that did not work for me either. I originally tried pointing it to launcher.exe as the guy above did, as that is what the shortcut on my desktop seems to point to...

Would be interesting to hear of anyone successfully able to set up a program file in Nvidia control panel for this sim.

Launcher.exe is just the menu/editor system. When you want to play a mission or fly, Launcher.exe launches (hence, the name) DCS.exe. DCS.exe contains the DCS engine and does all of the stuff related to the simulation.

Hi, I have this working with 4xAA and 16xAF as we speak, and associated the config to dcs.exe in the \bin\stable directory. Remember to use the "Force" or "Enhance Application Setting" in the nVidia control panel.

Which drivers are you using? OS? Video Card?

Maybe we can sort this out.

It is not launcher.exe ever. It is always DCS.exe.

If you are using the latest whql nvidia drivers in the Nvidia control panelunder 3D settings "adjust image settings with preview" in the right pane select (tick the radio button) "use the advanced 3D image settings" and apply. After this click "Manage 3D settings" set up your programs under the "Program settings" tab in the right pane. Click "add" and browse to the DCS.exe in your bin\stable folder. As mentioned for Antialiasing mode select "override any application setting" then set your own level of AA and AF and click apply. The settings should stick as long as you are pointing to the DCS.exe not the launcher.

I'm using Vista 64 bit, and a GTX 260. My driver is 190.38. As soon as i'm done typing this, i'm going to see if theres a later driver that I missed. Another thing, when I add DCS.exe to the list on the Nvidia Control Panel, it will disappear off that list every time I close and open the Control Panel...

What Sinelnic said. Make sure to force it or use enhance application setting. I don't bother with application settings, I just set it globally. I m using the same card and OS as you and it works fine.

You surely are hitting the "Apply" button at the lower right corner aren't you?

I too am using Vista 64 bit, and am using driver version 190.62

Mine too dissapears off the list of programs on my computer, after I add it and close and re-open control panel.

I will try it again to be sure...

Still not working for me, tried both " enhance the application setting ", and also " override the application" , and even tried different as and aa levels, still does not stick in the program files.

I too am running a GTX 260.

I can set them globally and will work fine, just cannot seem to set individually in program files specific to Black Shark. Don't know if it is a driver related issue or what. I also noticed, Black Shark is the only game that is not listed in control panel under " list only programs installed on this computer". I have to manually add it, and after doing so as mentioned above like 169th Maverick, after closing and re-opening it is gone.

Yup, I get the same problems as d. burnette. I just put it on globally and got it to work...it looks beautiful. And with the 260, theres very little FPS loss. I did this same thing for lockon back when I was playing it, and it worked fine. It seems to be a DCS thing that won't let you do it...

You do not need to use "Global settings" nor should you if you can help it. You want the levels of AA and AF applied program specifically. It will work. I struggled with it like you and in the end finally go it to work. If you want to leave it globaly applied of course you can but if you would like it to work as designed here are a few more things you could try:

It is normal that Black Shark is not listed under ""Show only programs installed on this computer"" It will not appear in this list even after you add it you must still uncheck the box before "Show only programs installed on this computer" to see it.

Try this. Under "3D settings" in the "adjust image settings with preview" section on the right pane select and apply "use my preferences emphasizing Balanced" after Applying it then once again tick the "Use the advanced 3D image settings" button and apply. Click on "take me there" (after applying).

Here click the "Program settings" tab. Uncheck the box before "Show only programs installed on this computer" Click "add" Browse to DCS.exe select 8x AF then under "Antialiasing mode" select "Override any application setting" and set 8x antialiasing. Now click "apply".

Hope this is helpful. If not feel free to come to our TS at the 104th and we will try to help you sort it out if you like. Just hit our website at www.104thphoenix.com and click on the TS module on the right to join. pass is phoenix.

Good Luck!

Yep, Polecat's advice about the '3D setting' changes is correct, even if it seems silly - this was what I required to get AA and AS forced in BS.

Glad you got yours working Maverick!

I have tried it 3 times so far this morning and still does not seem to work for me. I think I am going to try uninstalling and then reinstalling the drivers and see if that makes any difference.

Did an uninstall of the drivers, then ran driver sweeper in safe mode, then installed the drivers again. Still same result. Black Shark appears to be the only one that setting it up in program settings does not seem to work for me. Don't know that I want to really go back a few versions on my drivers, guess for now I will live with having to set it globally for when I want to run Black Shark and hope it perhaps will work for me in a future driver update...

Thanks for the help.

Well it appears I have got it now!

Below is what I did, just for giggles to see if it would make a difference, and danged if it didn't. My settings in program settings in Nvidia control panel now get applied when I run Black Shark. Thought I would post back in case anyone else runs across this may help as well.

In my Vista 64 bit Ultimate:

I right clicked the short cut on my desktop that runs Black Shark, and clicked on properties.

I then clicked on the " compatibility" tab.

In the compatiblity box, I put a checkmark in " Disable desktop composition", and also put a checkmark in " Disable virtual themes".

(Note - I am running the aero interface.)

While I was there I also put a check in " Run this program as an administrator".

Clicked on apply, then closed out the dialogue box.

My Black Shark now runs with my specified settings for it in control panel's program settings.

So glad I saw this thread, as it was certainly helpful in my getting this to work properly, thanks again.

Yea got it working, too after forcing it in the control panel.

I give you the advice to use 185.85 drivers. They run best for me in DCS Armed assault 2 and Crysis. The newer 190er only made problems.

Thank you so much PoleCat! Not only did your instructions work and make DCS Black Shark look 100% better, but I also get a huge performance increase in the game now! :)

+rep to you, my friend.
