JAG Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 (edited) Hello, today I saw a genius lcd photo frame on a store, it looks cool but then a question come to my mind ... Could this be used like a mini monitor to show dinamic data, for example ammo quantity, fuel, or something like that. Someone knows if this could be done, or they only can show static pictures. Some of the specifications of the photo frame are this: Motion-Jpeg AVI USB 2.0 interface Non-progressive Jpeg Maximum Jpeg Resolution: 16,384 (Horizontal) X No Limitation (Vertical) Picture Preview: 9x9 thumbnail image are shown in one TV screen Link to the full list of specifications http://www.geniusnet.com/geniusOnline/online.portal?_nfpb=true&productPortlet_actionOverride=%2Fportlets%2FproductArea%2Fproduct%2FquerySection&_windowLabel=productPortlet&productPortletproductId=1148060&productPortletsectionId=1148063&_pageLabel=productPage&test=portlet-action Saludos (Cheers) Edited October 1, 2009 by JAG Quick guide to configure ABRIS and LCD mini monitor Quick Countermeasure Editor v1.3.0 Core i5 3570K 4.0Ghz | GIGABYTE MOTHERBOARD | Crucial M4 120GB | 8GB DDR3 1600 MHZ | ASUS GTX 670 | AOC LED 23" | AOC LCD 24" | HYBRID DUAL THROTTLE (SAITEK THROTTLE QUADRANT + SUNCOM DUAL THROTTLE) | CH FIGHTERSTICK | SAITEK PRO PEDALS |
sinelnic Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Hola JAG, This device can only take "storage" as input, be it a memory card, or a USB connection to a computer. Hence, what it does not support is "realtime" information streaming. It can display a video, but it first it has to be in a file. So no good for using as a monitor for DCS. Igual la idea era buena, carajo... JAG Posted October 1, 2009 Author Posted October 1, 2009 Hola gusto en saludarte, do you know about an LCD monitor with similar size that can be used to show the data? CyBerkut Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Samsung makes Photo Frames that double as mini-monitors. For instance: http://www.everythingusb.com/samsung-syncmaster-u70-mini-monitor-16075.html Doing a google search yields many hits: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rls=com.microsoft%3A*%3AIE-SearchBox&rlz=1I7ADBR_en&q=Samsung+Photo+frame+mini-monitor&btnG=Search&aq=f&oq=&aqi= Be careful to look for ones that specifically mention "mini monitor" in the description, as Samsung makes many photo frames that will not act as a second mini monitor. If you are not limiting yourself to photo frame displays, here is a source of small (7") USB LCD displays (including a touch screen model): http://www.mimomonitors.com/ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] There's no place like 127.0.0.1
JAG Posted October 1, 2009 Author Posted October 1, 2009 I already search in google, but the results I get, was about little lcd tv or photo frames, but this mimo monitors are pretty cool, they are exactly what I was looking for. CyBerkut Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Hmm MIMO's no go with any games yet. That's probably true if one is talking about simply plugging it in and expecting it to work with a sim / game that hasn't been tweaked in some way. However, there are a lot of creative folks around. Some folks are using a touchscreen MIMO with TouchBuddy, for instance. One of the guys posting in the TB forums has a project to combine multiple MIMOs with his main computer and a touchscreen All-in-One PC to create a multi-touchscreen glass cockpit. I'd definitely recommend that anyone who is looking at hooking up more than one MIMO to a PC to check out his thread on the TB forums. I know there are people that are looking to combine a USB monitor with Thrustmaster's new Cougar MFDs to make a reasonably functional MFD that can display live images from their sim(s). [Note: the TM Cougar MFDs do not have any rotary encoder knobs... just push buttons and rocker switches]. I imagine those folks are looking at using one of the add-on programs like Falcon Glass, or whatever, to extract/export the applicable data/images for sending to the MFD displays. I just read last night where one guy (I forget who), setup an additional monitor off to one side to mirror the instrument panel, and then pointed cameras at the MFD portions of that mirrored panel to send to the MFD displays in his pit. He understandably did not consider it an optimal solution, but I have to admire his creativity. It would be nice if sim software authors included more options for splitting out various items for additional displays. (E.D.'s options for the Camera + Shkval + Abris displays was a good start, but of course we always want more...) As time goes on, we get more tools to do interesting things with. Of course, it would be nice if M$ put the horizontal and vertical spanning capabilities (that were in Win XP) in to Win 7 and future OSs. Chances seem pretty slim on that, though. CyBerkut Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Here's a post where someone is using a touchscreen MIMO with TB to make a stand-alone ABRIS display: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=643027&postcount=28 That is part of the thread about Dick Dastardly's TB profiles for DCS:BS. He did tremendous work with that! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] There's no place like 127.0.0.1
questerymj Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 I'm a MIMO user too(UM-710 without touch screen) and it done well as a ABRIS display. Since you can use 1-5 key to control it easily, the far cheaper 710 is as nice as the touch screen ones I think. but you need to change to window mode to use MIMO monitor right? The loss in FPS is not acceptable to me until now...:( Even in a 800*600 sub monitor connect to my main GPU can fix this.
stelios2000 Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 how about these ??? http://www.chinavasion.com/index.php/cName/home-audio-video-lcd-monitors-tv/sort/b/
CyBerkut Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 That's a whole list of displays, there. Many of them appear to be TV displays (ATSC/NTSC/PAL inputs), without a VGA input. There are some VGA input displays on there, many (if not all) of them touchscreens. That 15 Inch Touchscreen LCD with VGA, http://www.chinavasion.com/product_info.php/pName/15-inch-touchscreen-lcd-with-vga/ looks like it would be really nice for TouchBuddy! PanelBuilder Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 There's also 10.4 Inch Touchscreen LCD but it's more expensive than the 15 inch.
BaD CrC Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 I am using a 9 inch display I bought in a car tuning site + VGA to Svideo converter: Full topic here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=41358 https://www.blacksharkden.com http://discord.gg/blacksharkden
sweinhart3 Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 This may or may not be suitable for what you want. Its a good price tho. I dont know if mfd is exportable yet tho. http://www.scsimulations.com/store/products/Samsung-U70-USB-LCD.html Intel i7 990X, 6GB DDR3, Nvidia GTX 470 x2 SLI, Win 7 x64 http://picasaweb.google.com/sweinhart

And I ever try to display SHAKL/ABRIS in these usb monitor, they work very nice but you will be forced to use window mode and lost a lot of FPS.
