This new A10 sim that's eventually coming out (I have faith) ... will it support multicore processors? What DirectX will it support?

I'm about to upgrade to:

Athlon 240

4GB RAM

HD3850

Windows 7

Thus I would consider buying it if it can run at a decent FPS on my system.

BS is already multicore,

probaly DX0, at a guess.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

oops . DX9..

with the 1.0.1 [a,b,c,d,e,f,g,......] patchit's now multicore. I think I heard about a 64bit thingy for BS. So whatever is in BS would be for the Hog.

Joey, it's not multithreaded. What the patch has done with respect for multicore is that the appliucation now default to all-core affinity - that is, it now does what we used to use DCSmax for.

The application itself is not "multicore" though. That would require a massive rewrite of major parts of the application.

Is it multicore after the patch!? I find that hard to believe.

I never heard any mention of it (and I even read the entire patch readme)...

No it is not natively multithreaded, when run under dx10, the OS can distribute load between the 2 cores better than under dx9 and therefore there is a FPS boost in dx10 OSs, but that does not make it multithreaded. What did happen is that the dx10 feature can now be used without a separate utility just with the game alone. But again, the games is not multithreaded and most likely will not be after the A-10.

It's sort of multicore though.

It's not any more multicore now than it was before. The only thing that changed in this respect is that it will automatically set it's affinity. That's it. That's everything that changed in that area.

EDIT: Hahah sobek, we need to stop posting on top of each other. :P

I have total certainty in doubting that the DCS engine uses the DX10 api, and can affirm conclusively that it will be a total surprise if it used it for the A-10 module.

OK, DX10 ... will the A10 sim support DX10.1?

AFAIK not, but it will nevertheless benefit from being run in a DX10 OS, due to the multicore load distribution optimisation of DX10.

?? Not sure what you mean.

If the OS is better at utilising multicores, e.g. Windows 7, then fine. But if the program doesn't actually use DX10 then how does the "multicore load distribution optimisation of DX10" make any difference?

So far my conclusion is that the A10 sim will not support multicore, nor will it utilise DX10.
