Sarge55 Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 I just reformated my hard drive and I've had no issues reinstalling Lockon over the last few years including on Vista 64....until now. For some reason I am now getting all the way up to the point of launching the game and I get an error telling me the Lockon.exe file is corrupted or may have a virus and that I should do a complete re-install. I've done a virus scan and done a couple of re-installs with the same results. Lockon 1.0 works fine it seems the problem is with FC. Has anyone else had this problem? A search in the forum turned up nil. I'd like to get this sorted out before the DCS final update.:helpsmilie: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] i7 10700K OC 5.1GHZ / 500GB SSD & 1TB M:2 & 4TB HDD / MSI Gaming MB / GTX 1080 / 32GB RAM / Win 10 / TrackIR 4 Pro / CH Pedals / TM Warthog

Thanks for the link. I have the Lockon Gold edition so I already have the Flaming cliffs disk. I see in the linked page I have to pay for the 1.1b, is this not just the download version of what I already have on the disk? Yes, I have UAC off, run the installs as admin and I create a folder in C:\ to install into C:\Lockon\... Thanks again. 159th_Viper Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 No need to pay for the patch to 1.12b. I would advise that you do the following: 1- Uninstall completely, manually remove all leftover folders. Navigate to the registry and delete all entries pertaining to Ubisoft/Eagle Dynamics. (Watch out for the BS entries if you have it installed-Do not want to delete those) 2- Install LockOn 1.0 3- Install Flaming Cliffs 4- Imperative that the correct patch is installed. Assuming here that you have the US release version of LockOn Gold. If so, navigate to the following link and download the third patch down: http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?section=downloads&subcat=17&lang=en 5- Lastly - Update your Starforce Driver. Vista/Win7 and LockOn will not function together without the update. http://www.star-force.com/support/sfdrvup.zip Hope that Helps :) Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Sarge55 Posted October 17, 2009 Author Posted October 17, 2009 (edited) No joy guys. Thanks very much for all your help. I dug out my old rig with XP and I'm going to load it on it to confirm if it's the disk or the OS. Might have to set up a dual boot on my current rig if this works out. Thanks again for all your help Update: Installed and ran fine in XP so it's an OS issue. I'll try installing the files in XP compatibility mode as well as administrator. If that doesn't work I'll have to go dual boot. PoleCat Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 (edited) after installing the FC 1.1 is updated there is a 1.1b update and then you would update to the 1.12. This is incorrect. No patches should be installed in between LockOn and FC and the only patch after FC should be 1.12. The proper sequence is as follows: 1: Install Lock On (If under Vista/Win7 install with admin rights and UAC disabled, consider install outside of program files directory ie; "C:\Games\Ubisoft\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On\") 2: Install Flaming Cliffs (If FC DL version also install the all seasons terrain.) 3: Install the correct Flaming cliffs 1.12 patch for your version CD or DL. (Avialable at Lockon.ru). 4: Windows Vista or Windows 7 users should Install the latest Starforce Driver update (SFUpdate) here then reboot) 5: Enter the game and configure your HOTAS, Sound and Graphics options. 6: Back up the entire Lock On folder (Make a copy of the LockOn folder. Rar or zip is also fine). Just in case you ever corrupt the install you can fall back to this clean one with out a full re-install. Out Edited October 18, 2009 by PoleCat http://www.104thphoenix.com/
Sarge55 Posted October 17, 2009 Author Posted October 17, 2009 Thanks for clearing that up PoleCat. That is the procedure I follow and it worked fine when I installed Lockon / FC in Feb after getting the new rig with Vista 64. I just relized that the error msg doesn't say "corrupted" but that Lockon.exe has been "modified", perhaps by a virus. Reinstall application. It is in a activation window so it maybe an issue with Starforce. The strangest thing is version 1.02 works like a dream. I'd hate to miss out on 1.13 when it is eventually released. PoleCat Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 This really does seem like a starforce issue judging from that error. Make sure the 1.12 patch is the correct one for your install. Also if you attempt to re-install again make sure to delete any and all left over LockOn folders before you re-install it. Dont forget after the patch 1.12 is installed do not run the game yet. Instead go to starforce web site and get the sfupdate and install it to update the protection drivers and then one more reboot and you should be good to go. Best of luck. Keep us posted. Sarge55 Posted October 19, 2009 Author Posted October 19, 2009 (edited) Well I've given up (for now anyway). I thought I would try installing 1.11 before 1.12b to see if it would work but I got the same result. I don't think getting the download version will be any help as it seems to be a Starforce issue. I was able to install and run it on a XP rig. No help from the Starforce site either. At least I can still fly in 1.02. I'll miss the Su-25T, at least until I get a dual boot set up. Never done that before should be interesting, the things you do to be able to play a flight sim. Thanks to all the guys with the suggestions, I appreciate you taking the time to help me out. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Edited October 26, 2009 by Sarge55 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] i7 10700K OC 5.1GHZ / 500GB SSD & 1TB M:2 & 4TB HDD / MSI Gaming MB / GTX 1080 / 32GB RAM / Win 10 / TrackIR 4 Pro / CH Pedals / TM Warthog
Sarge55 Posted October 26, 2009 Author Posted October 26, 2009 Woot! Got it up and running. The down side is I've tried so many different ways of installing and updating etc.... I'm not really sure how I did it. This time though, I also uninstalled Modman and any connection to it (athough not in the registry). I did get a work around from Starforce which would have updated my Lockon module after installation but didn't need to use it. I'll save it for next time. Thanks to Alexander Sobol at LockOn.ru, Sergei at StarForce as well as the guys here at the forum for all the help. Sarge55 Posted November 1, 2009 Author Posted November 1, 2009 Darn, spoke too soon. Played fine for a few days, then the same error showed up. "Modified Lockon.exe" Unfortunately Sergei's work around did not work either. As it only happens when Starforce checks the disk it has to be a Starforce issue. Back to setting up a dual boot option and see if that works. Sigh! 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] i7 10700K OC 5.1GHZ / 500GB SSD & 1TB M:2 & 4TB HDD / MSI Gaming MB / GTX 1080 / 32GB RAM / Win 10 / TrackIR 4 Pro / CH Pedals / TM Warthog
