Geier Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Hello! I've found some interesting info about Su25 in Afghan war. There's a diary of Su25's pilot Alexandr Araslanov. Unfortunately it's all in Russian but nevetheless you can see pictures that were made by him since 1987-1988. Araslanov Alexandr Anatolyevich Graduated the Kacha's Air Force academy in 1975., took part in Afghan war since 1987 till 1988. http://kacha.ru/php/baza/face.php?id=2144 His diary is called "The year of life - the year of death". In Russian. http://artofwar.ru/a/araslanow_a_a/text_0040.shtml And now some photos. Bagram: canteen and club Bagram was taken from approach height Laser - guidance support vehicle Bombs away! joey45 Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 very nice, thanks. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Case Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Amazing find! Thank you very much for posting it here! Great to see the weapons they had in stock. Seems like S-25's, BetAB's and FAB's (can't tell if they're 100 or 250's). I hope there'll be an Afghan theatre with DCS:Apache and DCS:Frogfoot. There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
Vekkinho Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Yes, unlike recent Georgian conflict S-25 were more common on CAS tasked Frogs! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Boberro Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Great find :) These S-25 are really huge compared to people. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
zakobi Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Great find :) These S-25 are really huge compared to people. But compared to other aircrafts, isn't it really small?
ED Team Groove Posted October 23, 2009 ED Team Posted October 23, 2009 Fantastic shots, thanks ! Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
Vekkinho Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 But compared to other aircrafts, isn't it really small? It's S-25 not Su-25... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

RedTiger Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Laser - guidance support vehicle I'm surprised that no one mentioned this thing. That's pretty cool. I guess I always imagined a soldier or special forces with actual boots on the ground lasing the target. I never thought about mounting it to an APC!!!

Geier Posted October 24, 2009 Author Posted October 24, 2009 I'm surprised that no one mentioned this thing. That's pretty cool. I guess I always imagined a soldier or special forces with actual boots on the ground lasing the target. I never thought about mounting it to an APC!!! That was began with a "nand-made" research. The most practical appeared to be Х-25 and Х-29L with laser homing warhead under the guidance of range finder-designator "Klen-PS" from other attack plane but such technique was not successful - there was too hard for pilots to identifн and fix the targets. So at the first use from four launched Х-29L only two have hit the aims tightened by a smoke. The best results were given by the help of the gunlayers who knew the area very well. At first laser designators were tried to mount on APC and IFV and then they were replaced by regular vehicles (BOMAN) (a version of it you can see in BS ;)) on the base of BTR-70 on which the system was covered under the armour and was put outside at work. The enemy has quickly estimated value of unusually looking vehicles and tried to destroy them first of all. After several successful launches when rockets destroyed staffs and islamic committees, the hunting on BOMAN has begun on roads and parkings, enforcing to hide vehicles behind a barbed wire and mine obstacles of well protected airfields. Missiles became the solid weapon of destruction the enemy cave shelters, almost impregnable for other stuff. The LGS on APC you see on picture was the only one made in this regiment. 1
