Just quickly loaded up the demo flights @ 1900 x 1200 (my max monitor res) and its super smooth..... I remember when I `built` the last rig for DCS .... QX6700 and 8800GTX lol Will be interesting to see how the SSD performs..... not so much in DCS but windows use and maybe FSX... will keep you posted. :megalol:

Conuk Posted December 28, 2009 Author Posted December 28, 2009 Think ill be ordering ssd tomorrow... Just reading up on which to get. They small though! But I have 1tb of sata in there as we'll so not a problem.

DANWATTO Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 How's the frame rate? Can you give a report with water = 0 and water on? I have a similar setup but with i7 2.66 and nvidia gtx 295. Considering overclocking. My current FPS is 15 water on, 40 water off.
Conuk Posted December 29, 2009 Author Posted December 29, 2009 hey dan - how would you like me to test the frame rate ? Im just testing to see if 4.2ghz is stable.... windows boots up and temps are ok - obviously no load yet tho. My problem at the mo seems to be the 5870 - its an XFX XXX version overclocked... and it dont seem to want to play overclocked.... just testing whether its ok at stock .... seems ok so far. get that I7 cranked up :)
Kuky Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 don't o/c the video card, it's pointless in this sim and you won't get anything out of it. If you want to stress test your system properly run Intel Burn test PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
Conuk Posted December 29, 2009 Author Posted December 29, 2009 The card is factory overclocked.... An xfx xxx 5870. Seems its a duff card and will run only stock. IBT runs fine at 4ghz ...after 20 runs.... Just trying 4.2 just for fun...getting hot hot hot now tho.

DANWATTO Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 To test framerate just open instant action and wait 1 minute in. Ctrl pause will show the framerate. Test with all settings on highest or let me know if you have the water=0 tweak. Setting water=0 made my fps go from 14 to 40 even when I'm not near water! I would like to get 60fps I hope by OC from 2.6 to 3.6 and upgrading from xp64 to win7 64. Does anyone know if turning aero and desktop composition off will increase fps?
4c Hajduk Veljko Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 I am looking forward to any SSD-reports, as I am considering SSD for my upcoming rig as well :D Cheers & good luck!I also am looking at SSD solution for my next rig. I am thinking 2 X 30GB in RAID 0. What I am not sure is if new SATA 6GB/s, (such as ASUS P6X58D) would take advantage of two SSD's in RADI 0? Kuky Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 There are higher capacity SSD which actually have 2x SSD inside in RAID0, I don't see why RAID0 with SSD would not be better then single SSD, same as with standard HDD PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR

Conuk Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 finally ordered my SSD to complete the rig Intel X25-M * SSDSA2MH080G1, 80GB, SATA/300 unfortunately I have to RMA the graphics card tomorrow....... sob ;)
Duke49th Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 My current FPS is 15 water on, 40 water off. I have 17 fps water on, 28 fps water off. (with Shkval activated, with Shkval deactivated I have up to 24fps water on and 50fps water off) But: AMD X2-5200 and an ATI 4870 (which I bought this morning, had a 3870 before and with some lower settings I had similar fps:noexpression:) Why did you have such a low fps with water on? I first thought that my CPU limits. But it seems that water causes big problems. Also some city's and the shkval. Very strange engine behaviour! With ArmA 2 I have similar performance issue's. All other Games are running nice and with much higher fps then before @very high settings [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 49th Black Diamonds - DCS & Falcon BMS Online Squad

sweinhart3 Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 hey dan - how would you like me to test the frame rate ? Im just testing to see if 4.2ghz is stable.... windows boots up and temps are ok - obviously no load yet tho. My problem at the mo seems to be the 5870 - its an XFX XXX version overclocked... and it dont seem to want to play overclocked.... just testing whether its ok at stock .... seems ok so far. get that I7 cranked up :) My system is still a Core2 Extreme and I get decent framerates. Ive messed with overclocking but had somewhat inconclusive results. Its default clocking was at 3.16Ghz but I ran it up to 3.5Ghz and had what I would consider a stable system. Windows would boot and I could play other modern 3D games for any extended time without a lockup. DCS however was giving me some different results. I could run the sim but it would crash at random points which is very frustrating during long trips. I lowered the frequency to 3.4Ghz and ran for quite some time. I could many times get through 2 or 3 missions without any problem and then I get the same Windows 7 popup "DCS has encountered an error" and stops running. Not long ago after this happened, DCS would always get this error when I tried to start a flight and I was forced to uninstall and reinstall. Ive since clocked it back down to 3.2Ghz and while this error still happens its less frequent. I cant explain this when none of my other games encounter this even when overclocked, but DCS on my system at least is sensitive to this. An article on Anandtech I read suggested that various CPU/MB/Memory combinations are very much a hit or miss when it comes to compatibility issues. Perhaps because DCS is cpu intensive, it might be a little more sensitive to memory or motherboard timings than other games. Ive thought about upgrading but Im not so sure I would get a great deal of performance enhancement. The Intel 975X was just a hair faster than the 965X. I read that the new Clarksdale 6core chip that isnt out yet is the same frequency as the 975X but with 2 more cores. This doesnt seem to give me much justification for upgrade. I would like to know how much fps difference in DCS btwn Core2X, i5 860, and 975X. If its like 5fps that isnt worth a $1500 upgrade. XysteR Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 (edited) Get more monitors for Eyefinity. I'm running 3 X 24" on my 5970. Simply awesome in DCS maxed out at 5760X1200! I'm currently trying to correct the cockpit view as it looks like i'm zoomed right into the hud and i can't zoom back any further. Hopefully i'll get to the bottom of this. *** Fixed the cockpit view *** :D Edited February 26, 2010 by XysteR
