Well if he'd have been more accurate. Others have fixed this problem by installing with Compatability mode and/or run as administrator. Google is up last I checked.:music_whistling:

I said I did that everytime and it made no diff,,,,

I'm going to try Win 7 one more time, getting ready ti re-install right now..

Remember people, when install drivers of Cougar and this not work, BEFORE install other drivers for Cougar, need ERASE ALL directorys of COUGAR, including empty directorys. "...\programs files\HOTAS"

And is good point clean register.

AFTER this, you can install new drivers.

For STTubeDevice203.dll you NEED copy this file, inside in "...\programs files\HOTAS\drivers" to this HOTAS root file "...\programs files\HOTAS"

How can he do that if the program won't install in the first place. He says it hangs at 50% on install. If he can't install it there is no HOTAS folder. I think that is what he is saying.

When i look at the device manager, i can see hotas in/out, but when i try to start the hotas control panel it says "device detection error", when i restart the computer it seems that the drivers disapear from cpu and when i look at the device manager it says "unreconizable device". I have kinda same problem but its on Win7 and Win2000 Prof.

My Cougar is viewable in the systemsettings ect. But the software wont recognize it. Its says "Detection error" or something. I then erased the firmware. But if I want to use the HOTASUPDATE.exe it says that it will now install the firmware and then gives an error. ON both Win7 and 2000. Any Ideas? I thought about using an older firmware but I cant find one.

Maybe the cougar is broken now, since its not accepting flashing firmwares?

Sorry for my bad english guys.

I had a cougar and sold it, because of the same problem. the guy that bought it, said he updated it in Windows XP and it worked in Windows 7. I tried to update and install it in W7 64-bit, Vista 32-bit and XP and it wouldn't work for me. Might want to try the XP thing, hope you get it working.

NeoJD and mates

If you try everything above and it didn't work, please check device manager tree and look for HID keyboards. Maybe you have two devices: one right and other wrong.

Turn off automatic software updates and win7 auto update drivers.

Go to keyboard properties and see which one have only 3 tabs. The right one keyboard have 4 tabs (with energy management). Manually update drives for the second and choose HID compliant device instead of HID keyboad option.

If win7 overwrote the right HID driver when you plug the cougar in an USB port previously used by the USB HID keyboard this will fix it. The HID game controller will popup in HID device manager section.

I had the same problem with mine and only discovered the wrong driver address after read this thread and comparing the specs with my system. I spent three days to fix it and almost ordered other hotas.

OK Chefer you may be onto something.

I checked my Device Manager and I do have 2 HID Keyboards in there. I unplugged my keyboard and one entry went away.

Now I don't understand what I should do with the other?? I tried to update the driver and win7 is sure it's a keyboard.

How do I compare? Or can I just uninstall it?

Thanks

Clearly stated in the first post that you tried different driver packages. Once you have installed the wrong drivers and software it is a bit more difficult to go back and fix it. Had you followed the guide at cubpilots Hangar here..http://cubpilotshangar.net/page105.html You would have got it right the first time.

I would remove everything and follow the steps in the link above if I were you (there is a "Go Directly to Trouble Shooting" link on the page (top right) and it should help you set it right). Install under Win7 x64 has worked flawlessly for me personally 10-20 times on different machines with different Cougars, and for countless others as well. I would say it should work for you.

Hey PoleCat I did follow Cubby's guide the first time. And it did work for a couple of days. But then I updated the win7 to SP-1, and got the TIR goiing. Next thing I know....no kitty.

I wonder if our problems are related to the usb controlers. I also wonder if there is a way to clear the system of all the old devices that were once plugged into the usb ports.

Did you tried this?:

corrupt calibration? crazy joystick response? Use this tools Fix it:

I have used all of those too Peter. It's a good idea to have posted it here. thumbup.gif

I just used JoyID's along with AutoHotKey to bind my Warthog pinky lever to control TrackIR, short press is CENTER, long press is PAUSE TrackIR.

Here's another one. I found this on some forum in which the problem was a Cougar that would not work on a USB port (or more than one USB port). After using this program to delete all instances referring to "Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar", the Cougar could connect thru USB again!

USBDeview: (<<< !!! don't let you fool you of the "download" advert at the top - scroll the whole page down to download it.

- pete)

USBDeview is a small utility that lists all USB devices that currently connected to your computer, as well as all USB devices that you previously used.

For each USB device, extended information is displayed: Device name/description, device type, serial number (for mass storage devices), the date/time that device was added, VendorID, ProductID, and more...

USBDeview also allows you to uninstall USB devices that you previously used, disconnect USB devices that are currently connected to your computer, as well as to disable and enable USB devices.

You can also use USBDeview on a remote computer, as long as you login to that computer with admin user.

Ya that utility is cool. But at the same time you need to know what you are looking at.

This is what I am trying now. I picked up a USB 3.0 pci card today. Dropped that thing in. Did a clean install. Don't forget to clean the registry too. Follow Cubby's directions. All works like it should! The question is why?\

BTW I have this utility called "Your Unin-Staller". It uninstalls like normal then it kicks in and goes through the registry. Cleaned out 17 entries.

I still want to clean out that onboard usb controller though.

I did get the old Cougar working with the new card. I also cleaned out all the usb devices that i don't use. You can use the util to take out the driver for the Cougar also. And then plug the Cougar back in and it will reinstall.

One time it didn't want to work. Tried all the old tricks I could think of. What I did that time was to plug it into the old xp machine. Flash it, got it working. Then just moved it back to the win7 machine. Go figure!

It could be that the firmware in the joystick was an older or different version than the software you were using (based on your fix above). If the TM firmware & TM software versions are different you will have installation problems. More details are here, item #8.

This is something most people would probably not think of as being important and should not be a problem with a new Cougar. If it is a used Cougar that you may have purchased, then if it has firmware in the joystick from previous use you won't know what version it may be. A way to delete the firmware during installation is to hold the trigger down for at least 5 seconds when asked to plug in the Cougar during the install. This will erase the firmware. Then you will need to reload the firmware into the joystick, which will then match the software being used.
