Wolf85 Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 When I fly a mission, I send my wingwan out for recon. Now he see targets and I program them in the ABRIS. But how do I see the in my HUD? Because on the map I see them, but it is not easy this way :) Thank you.
Boberro Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 You can''t display targets on HUD. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
EtherealN Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 I'm currently on my netbook (and an hours drive from my manuals), so I can't give you specific directions, but I believe the datalink tutorial inside the game (select "Training" in the menu) touches upon the directions for how to slave the Skhval seeker to a datalinked target. Another option is to simply see where the target is on the ABRIS, uncage your Skhval, and then slew the seeker while looking at the Skhval FOV indicator on your ABRIS screen. Griffin Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 This is how you can make your Shkval point directly to datalink targets: (Assuming Targeting mode has been reset) 1. Select the Datalinked target of choice (it will flash on ABRIS) 2. Select the "DL/Ingress Button" (next to Send/Mem). Once selected, your target of choice will be marked in a cross on the ABRIS. 3. Uncage the Shkval.
zdXu Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 This is how you can make your Shkval point directly to datalink targets: "directly" in the meaning of there could be a wrongness between target and shkval-point of up to 15 or more meters.
Frederf Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 And easily more when we get INU drift modeled! There's the wingman's error in converting his Shkval target to Lat/Long figures when sending the DL target and the recipient's error when changing the Lat/Long from the DL target information back into angular driving for the Shkval. But to put in my 2c answer to the OP's question, cycle the DL points until the one you want is flashing and use the DL Ingress function. It works just like the NAVTGT button but for data points instead of PVI points.
dooom Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 question: if i choose a nav/tgt point on abris so it flashes, then hit ingress and uncage, will schkvall point to its coords? Frederf Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Yeah, if you do it right. Just for the future though you should avoid using the term "nav/tgt" when referring to points in the DL memory as this is easily confused with the 10 NAVTGT points that can be stored in the PVI-800 system. "Datalink point" is probably better. The DL Ingress function can point the Skhval, display HUD information, and be used with the AP ROUTE function. This is very, very similar to how NAVTGT task points work. The major difference is what system the points are stored in, DL points are saved in DL memory and NAVTGT points are saved in PVI-800 memory. Also for pointing the Shkval during the uncage event, many systems can point the Shkval. DL Ingress can point Shkval, PVI-800 can point Shkval, Helmet Mounted Sight can point Shkval, or the Shkval can point straight ahead unchanged. When you press uncage and 2 or more systems want to point the Shkval in different directions, how does it pick which one to use? How it chooses is via a priority list. If you have DL Ingress and HMS fighting to point an uncaged Shkval the HMS will win because it has higher priority. If you turn the HMS off then the next (active) system down the priority list will win. Just a friendly reminder if not the system you want wins the fight.
dooom Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 ok - thats what i was asking - what is process to slave sckval to pvi-800 point? do i select it with NAVTGT then uncage? this is what i am understanding. Wolf85 Posted January 19, 2010 Author Posted January 19, 2010 Thanks ok so you have to search again with the shrval. Cool cool. But other question: When I want to recon like the order i give to my wingman, you really scan manually with the shrval? Because this looks like it takes hours for me, but my wingman does it in seconds...

No, you select your data point, engage DL ingress, and then uncage. Because this looks like it takes hours for me, but my wingman does it in seconds AI cheats because ED can't code too well ;P

Because this looks like it takes hours for me, but my wingman does it in seconds... I thought that too until I used a second little TFT as Shkval display just for fun and atmospheric reasons. Then I realized the real power of the shkval. I never want to play BS without second TFT again although it's quite unhandy without dedicated "workspace".
