Oh boy, I'm going to take a lot of $hi7 for this!

Ok, so as a frequent (often too frequent) viewer and participant of these forums, I've seen new missile and aircraft performance threads apearing every few days, usually trying to debate which is better, Russian or American missiles/aircraft. The information to support the opinions comes from a variety of sources and more importantly, from a variety of different time periods.

So, which time period is Lock On trying to replicate? I mean, I believe this has been discussed before, but come on! You can't begin to discuss anything else until you decide on this.

Personally I believe the uber-modern stuff is too unknown (and IMO, less interesting) to model. I believe Lockon should aim to replicate more mid 80s to early 90s era technology (you know, late/post cold war). More information would be known and could also add a potential historical aspect to the game.

Anyway, I don't believe this was discussed recently, and I though it would be relevant to bring up.

Ok, now feel free to fire away and make a fool of me as before. I'm just about used to it. I was just curious as to what time period people pictured Lock On modeling.

Thanks

I think it is about 1990s.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

I would gladly play late 1960 over North Vietnam in DCS detail aircrafts. It's the jets era but with more intresting for me kind of air combat - dogfighting. That would blow my mind. Imagine Crusaders, A-4s, Phantoms starting from a deck and MiGs-21 and 17s of North...

Is there any still classified technology from that time?

Lockon take place around 90s, Though the sim is modeled as it was 4++ missiles,4++ Radar Warning system, 4++ engines that dont overheat. 4++ radar that always hold lock if bandit dont noch or extende. 4++ jammers, 4++ landing gear for crash landings. I love it there is no better sim still fo modernr A2A battle.

Question was: What era do you thing Lock On takes place in, or should take place in?

My vote option was 1980s and it's answer for second part of question :) Other things (about how it is) I agree nearly in 100% with Tek...

it takes place in 2004

there is a file where the date of lockon is set

it is the world lua

Lock On\Config\world

RandomMissionEvents = true

MissionDate = { Year = 2004, Month = 6, Day = 22 }

FragmentLanding =

{

TrashWaterOn = false,

TrashGroundOnLifeTime = 60, -- sek

PartsGroundOnLifeTime = 600, -- sek

}

There's no real era. The latest flyable weapon places it perhaps in 2000 at the latest, but in case you haven't noticed - the aircraft don't actually represent a particular model at a particular time faithfully.

Yeah, it is easy to answer. Mid-90's to 2000 ;)

Sounds right, though I would prefer the 80s.

Now the "should" is easy to answer: 70s and 80s of course ;)

Su-27 didn't come around until '81.

Yeah, it is easy to answer. Mid-90's to 2000 ;)

Why? Why not a decade earlier for a more realistic simulation?

Who says it'll be more realistic?

And because the older it gets, the less it interests me. This 'SARH Only' or '80's' fads do nothing for me. Besides, you'd barely have any Su-27's in service - would servers over very limited numbers of Su-27's to simulate this, or would it be the same deal as MiG-29S' (Russia barely has any, but balance FTW! We must balance those ARH-carrying yankees!).

I'd happily take an F-22 if it could be reliably simulated.

Less it interests you? Oh, I get it! I'm sorry, I forgot you speak for the whole community. Silly me :doh: ;)

Ok, fine late 80s to early 90s.

The depths of the unknown simulation is as follows, these dots…

It is possible to simulate any period including the 70s by constructing a battle scene where for example an F-14 would be attacking SU-24 while Mig-25 and Mig-23 holding a strong hold and then bam… the Tornadoes fly in followed by the Phantoms, creating an awkward situation for the TU-22, SU-17 is chasing it’s shadow and one of the F-5 is just about to sneak in to do some damage and kaboom… result.

I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully.
