Flyby Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Somehow I think it will be adequate, but Black Shark is cpu-intensive. Be sure to search out the affinity trick so you can use one core for the sim and the others to run the Windows background stuff. I'm planning to build a system based on that processor. FLyby out ps you're not just showing off are ya? ;) The U.S. Congress is the best governing body that BIG money can buy.
Grimes Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 I think you will be fine. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. SeaFoam Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 If you are spending that much why not build it yourself? I can think of a few parts I would change out and still keep it under $1300 but would be a lot better.
EtherealN Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Be sure to search out the affinity trick so you can use one core for the sim and the others to run the Windows background stuff. Not necessary. With the 1.0.1 patch DCS:BS will do that automatically. Vecko Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 a laptop can handle this sim just fine. Obviously ,you never experience online gameplay with 300+ active units in the mission... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Virtual Aerial Operations
CAT_101st Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 It will play the game but the CPU is lacking in gh. I think a custom built will be better for you. Boberro Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 I think you will be able to get at least 20 FPS ^^ 1 Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
EtherealN Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Obviously ,you never experience online gameplay with 300+ active units in the mission... There's nothing inherent in laptops that make them weaker than a stationary - as long as the laptops in question are designed with gaming in mind. You pay a premium for minituarization and lose overclocking options (mostly... I overclocked my netbook but that's just me...), but as long as you don't demand 10 hour battery times and can stand a 3.5kg laptop you can get some extremely powerful machines. Besides, your argument applies equally to stationary machines. Make the mission big enough and I don't care if you are running a BlueGene/L... ;) The processor in the OP's post is good. Standard clock is a bit on the low side, but the architecture is good and add a good aftermarket CPU fan/heatsink assembly and it'll go to somewhere between 3.8 and 4.4GHz. As long as the motherboard has a BIOS that allows that kind of control. hitman Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Obviously ,you never experience online gameplay with 300+ active units in the mission... now why would you want that many? a decent laptop from 4 years ago had no problems with lomac online, and black shark isnt much different. all you need to play these sims are decent video cards and maybe even a dual core chip. 1024 mb memory will probably even work...i f%^&in bet you it would if you had an amd fx57, ati 9800 pro, pc3200 1024 mb ram...i betch it would run fine.
emenance Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 I like the OP system for 1200 bucks that aint a bad price. One could almost spend that building it them selves. Laptops are really funny when talking about this sim. Laptops do inherently have a problem with High performance games, unless as mentioned they are " made for gaming " . Basically you have the neg factors in a typical non game laptop. Slower speed harddrive, slower motherboard in general ( yes some MB are just slower than others), slow graphics. Soome of that is fixed with a " gaming laptop" like faster graphics, faster hdd, and maybe a faster motherboard. Both platforms will suffer from heatbuild up and that will eventually cause insignificant, meaningful and consequential results as in a problematic death of hardware.
