jpm1 Posted March 7, 2010 Author Posted March 7, 2010 don't think the Costa rica sickness , the zebra cadaver , the elephant dung or the tiger shark (Hawaii island) could have been planned . That doesn't answer my question do british special forces or special forces in general are so knowledgedful , i knew they were hardly physically trained but i want to know if they also receive an advanced survival techniques formation SU-25 missions [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Lucas_From_Hell Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 The series is also known as "Ultimate Survival". It's not exactly scripted, but it's not like "Survivorman" either. Grylls wants to show how to survive in really extreme conditions (hence the "Ultimate"), so sometimes, conditions allowing, he jumps into trouble just to show you how to get past some situation. But he carry a good deal of equipment and has whole crew with him to assure nothing runs out of control. So he has a pretty good margin to enter more risky situations (these being proposed or not). "Survivorman" shows a guy by himself and almost no equipment trying to survive 7 days on a hostile environment, with just some random stuff he uses to improvise. Without immediate backup (only a safety team in a camp nearby), you see a more careful approach, avoiding much trouble and displaying some less risky techniques, but with some rather interesting tips on how to perform when lacking proper equipment. I don't know if the text is clear, but here's the thing: in Ultimate Survival, you'll see how to survive when there's no option. It's not entirely scripted, but not totally "natural" either. In Survivorman, the presenter covers his needs only, and by doing so shows how to use the resources available in the environment he's in to stay alive. About the Special Forces, my guess is that they're all like that. Otherwise, they wouldn't be called "Special" :)
ED Team JimMack Posted March 7, 2010 ED Team Posted March 7, 2010 just discovered Man VS wild series . and i'm impressed by the presenter (which is a british special forces veteran) knowledge about survival techniques . my question is concerning the british special forces : are all special forces guys that good . if you watch the series you'll be impressed by the guy knowledge . or maybe it's me , all the episodes are planned in advance , i can't believe it , don't break my dream , plz I am sure that special forces are taught how to survive in most regimes, European, jungle and desert. There have many published reports on the SAS entry course, and one of the elements is survival for I think at lease 3 days, and if you are caught scrounging food from the local population you get RTU'd. Even in 1967, as a junior RN officer, I was sent on a 5 day course in Malaya on how to survive in the jungle, what plants to eat, where you could find water, how to catch snakes and cook them, what grubs you could eat etc etc. Training must have got a lot more sophisticated in the last 40 years! Heli Shed Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 Hi. I'm not special forces but i Have been in the British Army for 23 years and hold the Rank of WO1 (RSM). I have a fair few mates and acquaintances in the SAS and SBS. To answer your Question......simply put....if they need to be. It is not a question of whether they would follow Bear Grylls by jumping over a mountain ridge down a waterfall, or live off nothing other than land crabs and chimp shit, that should be the question you are asking. Are they Methodical in approach, Wry in their thought process, Logical in estimate and skilled in many 'arts' of war? Answer..... yes of course! Come pay us a visit on YouTube - search for HELI SHED
