Hello folks, I have a couple of questions about programming the PVI in the ME:

Is there a way to store Airfields in the PVI without making them a start/end waypoint?

I would like to make a mission with one roundtrip of waypoints (i.e. Airfield1, WP1, WP2, WP3, Airfield1) and have 2 backup FARPS programmed to the PVI. That way you could divert to one of the FARPS quickly if you need to land in a hurry.

Also I was thinking of this:

The memory of the PVI is very limited when it comes to waypoints or targets, while the abris seems to know no such limits. I was wondering whether you could program a second "plan" into the ABRIS that has the 6 nearest airfields in the AO as waypoints 1-6 that you could load and export those 6 waypoints (which are few enough for the pvi to store them) to the pvi and use them to find your airfields/farps.

So is there a way to create multiple plans for the ABRIS in the ME?

Can the ABRIS export info to the pvi and overwrite it?

Thank you for your time!

Cheers,

Garf

I beleave there already stored into the abris use the search function.

I believe if you're using the ME... no. The ME is a one-trick pony interpreting your ME waypoints into PVI data. You'd probably have to manually text-edit the mission files for any non-standard behavior.

I would like to make a mission with one roundtrip of waypoints (i.e. Airfield1, WP1, WP2, WP3, Airfield1) and have 2 backup FARPS programmed to the PVI. That way you could divert to one of the FARPS quickly if you need to land in a hurry.

You will probably confuse pilots by putting the backup FARPs on ARFLD1 and ARFLD2. Standard practice would be to have departing ARFLD1, arriving ARFLD2, and any secondary non-route points as NAVTGT points which should be a lot easier to program using the ME.

I was wondering whether you could program a second "plan" into the ABRIS that has the 6 nearest airfields in the AO as waypoints 1-6

Sure, you can program a few ABRIS routes into the database in mission creation.

that you could load and export those 6 waypoints (which are few enough for the pvi to store them) to the pvi and use them to find your airfields/farps.

But this you can't do. There's no such thing as "exporting ABRIS to PVI" unless the pilot manually reads off the ABRIS screen and types it into the PVI.

Any FARPS added to the map and set as 'visable on map' will appear on the ABRIS. it is easy to find the nearest one to your location. use the search function, all airfields and FARPS are sorted by distance from your present position, select your divert FARP and press the TO button.

I believe target points should be left for targets not FARPs, FLOTs etc, IMHO FLOTs should be added to the ABRIS as a RED line, that way it is clear if the vehicle you are targeting is on your side of the line of the enemys.

cool, i did not know that manually placed farps are automatically added to the abris and can be found in the search function. this helps a lot!

thanks!

If you really wanted you could have alternate airfields saved in the ABRIS database as separate flight routes (but really only 1 or 2 waypoints).

e.g. 1. In ME just plonk yourself at the alternative with a waypoint at the end of the runway.

2. Go to prepare mission found in the flight tab up top in ME.

3. Save your mini route in ABRIS DB.

4. Return to ME, delete the route you just made.

5. Repeat 1-4 steps with other alternate airfields you desire.

6. Now make your actual mission you want and you will be able to load the multiples of alternate airfields you desire from your ABRIS at any time.

Just make sure you make at least 1 waypoint at the alternate airfields so the co-ordinates will be in the PVI.. ;)
