After this little discussion I think the Mig-25 would be fantastic if DCS would model it... I can just imagine it in multilayer where over zealous pilots going supersonic to intercept a target just to realize they cant slow down and about to explode hehe :D

Which also adds a new level of ground combat! Man-controlled cruise missiles! ;D

There's no "Overkill". There's only "open fire!" and "time to reload".

Specs: i7-980@4,2Ghz, 12GB RAM, 2x GTX480, 1x 8800GTS, X-Fi HD, Cougar, Warthog, dcs-F16-pedals

... Or get down to turn with it and learn what the Iraqi air force learned ... once you slow down for a dogfight you

1) Can't turn anyway (5g airframe!)

2) Can't out-energy whatever you're fighting with :D

Double inferior=lose.

I usually try to eject right before I impact my target though, reduces my CEP a bit, but at least I survive :D

So what soviet aircraft would threaten the topics western aircraft's in maneuverability ? Mig-29, Su-27 or maybe an old Mig-21 fishbed ?

edit: just found an awesome youtube flick

(Which would be an kinda interesting technology mix... anyone an idea for a fighter with a turbo fan- AND an ramjet-drive?

The Americans had this idea in the 60ies. It didn't see use in a fighter but the SR-71 used what was essentially a turbojet inside a ramjet. Once the speed was high enough for the ramjet to achieve compression, the airstream was partially redirected from the engine inlet to the ramjet, which provided better fuel economy at Mach3 (also, the engine at full power would have fried itself due to the high compression and the resulting rise in air temperature).

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

MiG-21's are capable but old and underpowered by comparison. They're dangerous, but not very competitive any more - they are good patrol and defense aircraft with new updated avionics, and can do ground-attack, but they're not competitive in the BVR arena against front-line fighters.

MiG-29's and Su-27's, the latest variants, are competitive. They are maneuverable, have plenty of energy, and reasonably updated avionics (though they're still lagging behind).

I don't want the F-16 because I really really don't like the finicky FBW :(

The plane has more control then you do. Besides, if I wanted an F-16 study sim, i'll go DL FreeFalcon right now!

Posted

Just what sort of control do you want that the FBW isn't letting you have? ;)

Something... like... ah!

I like the F-16 but you don't enjoy the rush you would get from when you trap the 3rd wire :joystick:

Sorry to inform you, but the F-16 can and has done that ... while the 'line' F-16 doesn't, it just happens to be a practical issue. Also, did you know that the lifetime of those russian-made engines was only 400 hours?

Nuh-uh.

I'm 16 dammit, you people are too knowledgeable for me .

Btw. FBW is there for a reason: It saves you from killing the aircraft, or even yourself. ;)

The MATV was experimental. As you can see the USAF didn't consider its capabilities necessary.

Zakatak - all modern fighter aircraft have some degree of fly-by-wire in it. While the F-16 is a 'pure' exception, F-15s CAS and A-10s SAS are both examples of fly-by-wire as they use digital computer signals to calculate movement of flight control surfaces.

+1

Cobras and advanced aerobatic maneuvers are cool, but they have pretty much zero use in a combat environment, namely because the aircraft cannot actually do those crazy maneuvers while carrying any sort of serious combat load. While the MATV F-16 has two CATM AIM-9s, I've never seen anything of the likes done like that on any aircraft with underwing hardpoints.

The finicky FBW, really, flying an F-16 is smooth as butter, you think about your move and it does it. I would love if ED made a F-16. Yea, go ahead and dl freefalcon, but your stuck with crappy graphics and other problems.

Well, I also like the F-16 but it's just a single engine and got no supercruise and even no vector thrusting.

But why are we just talking about US-Aircrafts?^^

The Eurofighter is a good Multi-Role aircraft, too and in future tranches it may be equiped with vector thrusters. I also like the BK-27 more than the M61^^

The Eurofighter can carry quite a bunch of weapons like Sidewinders, ASRAAMs, AMRAAMSs, IRIS-T, Taurus KEPD, "Storm Shadow" and quite a lot Brimstine ATGM Missiles and of cause GBUs and Mark 82/83... Only thing missing is a kind of anti radiation missile, but the ARMIGER will come soon^^

It's single seated, faster than the F-16, got 2 engines, should have a higher Payload than the F-16 and got a better "Thrust-to-weight ratio". It also got better Systems like the "PIRATE" and "DASS"

People can talk about whatever aircraft they want, I like F-16's. I'm sure this wish list is not limited to US aircraft only. Just the guy that started this thread added those options.

yeah, all in all I'd be happy with just about any aircraft DCS model, I'm not the biggest fan of the A-10 but I still enjoyed learning and flying the aircraft. I personally would like to see a Russian Mig or Su for the next installment even though they are considered the underdog compared to US aircraft I just cant help feel a certain affinity towards Russian derived hardware... Possibly because I like a challenge, flying an underdog with a high probability of random failures and the constant feeling it may fall apart around you :joystick:

I wish they could release 2 DCS models at a time, but I guess that would mean twice the work. On the plus side....twice the money

Although our wishes are certainly not limited to US aircraft, you guys should be aware that an ED staff has already confirmed that the next module will be a fixed-wing US aircraft.

Can someone fetch that link? I'm at work right now and don't have much time to spare.

A lot people know that, this is just a wish list that someone came up with. They (ed) has already said they will do whatever military contact aircraft they get. After this next DCS model it's anyone's guess on what will be released next.
