TheMoose Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Was wondering if you really require LO version 1 for FC2? Since I've installed on top of FC1.2a. Seems it created its own sub folder. Also due on the extent of the FC2 file size patch, it’s actually bigger then LO V1 itself. Seems now I have files & folders in the LO main directory that I might not need. But I’m afraid to delete them just in case. I have a second question. Seems the planes are less responsive to stick response then FC1.2. Dead zone has been inserted, to eliminate the direct push on the right that I was getting on default settings. However; push the stick on the right, left, up down, no matter; you see visually the stick in the plane move. But the plane seems to react more slowly to the direct input. Feature? I want also to take the opportunity to thank ED for FC2 and all involved in making this happen. I’m still thinking it’s expensive in Canadian money. However, seeing the work details implemented so far. I understand. I’m a very satisfied customer, as always. Congratulations on a job well done and good luck in future endeavors. Vekkinho Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Can't really answer all of your questions as I'm afraid to delete FC1.12a folder as well. But yes, input curves need readjusting with FC2.0. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
TheMoose Posted March 30, 2010 Author Posted March 30, 2010 I've set a curvature of +6 on both the Y and X axis for the Air to air birds. I haven’t configured the Su25 / T or the A10 yet. (Took me 2 days just to configure the F15C, Su27/33 and the variants of the Mig’s) Should I go minus, plus or keep it in a straight line? Any suggestions? Vekkinho Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Can't say...I keep my "in game" curves in default position 'cause I use TM Cougar and edit my stick curves with Cougar Control Panel (CCP). I had to make it more responsive for use with FC2.0! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
SFJackBauer Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 I'm feeling comfortable leaving deadzone to 0, saturation to 100 and setting curvature to 50. Using Saitek X-52. 1
TheMoose Posted March 30, 2010 Author Posted March 30, 2010 (edited) Curve to 50? Wow that seems extreme. But I guess trial by error would be the factor. However, how to do you feel about the direct response from the stick movement to the actual turning of your bird? Compared too FC1.2? EDIT: Thanks SFJackBauer, I've raised the curve to at least 30 and the plane reacts more efficiently. +1 Edited March 30, 2010 by TheMoose new input Antec 900 gaming tower, PSU: Corsair 750W, Q6600, Asus P5K, 8Gig Mushkin, Nvidia eVGA 280 GTX Superclocked 1G DDR3, SSDNOW200 Kingston Drive, TrackIr 3000+Vector, Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick, Saitek rudder pedals pro, Sharp 42" inch LCD Aquo. EvilBivol-1 Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 In general, the recommendation is to set significant curves for SFM planes and no or minimal curvature for AFM planes. Personally, I set about 45 for SFM pitch, roll and yaw. For AFM, I set no curve at all for pitch and roll and about 30 for yaw to help with small rudder input. In all cases, I set a deadzone of about 3-5, but this depends on the accuracy of your stick. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. TheMoose Posted March 30, 2010 Author Posted March 30, 2010 Thanks all for your assistance. Now the only question remaining is about the files... Do I need the FC1.2 / LO original files? EvilBivol-1 Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 FC2 only checks to make sure you have some version of LO or FC installed and does not use any of your old LO/FC files. The FC2 isntall will go into its own directory and have nothing else to do with your previous LO/FC install. 1 - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. TheMoose Posted March 30, 2010 Author Posted March 30, 2010 (edited) So is it safe to say that once you have installed FC2 you can delete the remaining directories and files of the previous version? Again thanks for the input on the curvature. I've raised it yet again to 40 and you all just improved my flight experience 10 folds. EvilBivol-1 Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 (edited) Yup, you can delete your previous installs after FC2 is in. However, considering you may need to re-install FC2 at some point, you may want to keep a clean, unused installation of LO v1.0 on your system so you don't have to re-install LO next time you want to re-install FC2. Kuky Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 I uninstalled original LockOn on my machine after I installed FC2 and there are no issues, but as EB said, if I'd wanted to reinstall FC2 again I'd need to install LockOn again also prior. Lava Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I saw a quote in another thread (have no link though) from either an ED member or tester that stated FC2 does not require LO etc except during install. There's a check done during install to see if you have LO and FC (not sure if it's one or the other or both), but after that you do not need LO + FC. Also, uninstalling LO + FC removes the starforce drivers, which is generally considered good. (edit) Figures, official word gets posted while I was typing this :)
LawnDart Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 (edited) Good question TheMoose, I was wondering the same. Thanks for the response EB! As far as joystick curve I use 40% curve for my pitch, roll, and yaw - (Or I'll use a -7 curve in CCP, for HOTAS Cougar owners, with no curves in game. -7 matches approx 40% in game).
