july865 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 are there night vision capabilities in the A10? . also, is there a way to turn up the volume on the enemy gun rounds impacting the A10? and also the volume for the actual GAU8 to be turned up? Boberro Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Yes, hog can use Mavericks AGM-65 D, which are to be used at night. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
july865 Posted March 31, 2010 Author Posted March 31, 2010 i meant as in goggles Asus x99, i7 5930k, 32g mem, MSI 1070GTX, 970 Samsung M.2, LG 35in Ultra-Wide, TrackIR 4 Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Zorrin Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I doubt you're gonna see anything as advanced as that in an "LO addon". If they can be used in the real thing then that'll be something that we can expect in DCS:Hog and moreover it'd probably detract from ED's business plan. Yah we can complain, but like us, they gotta eat. Patience is a virtue eh? Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.
july865 Posted March 31, 2010 Author Posted March 31, 2010 then how do these birds hunt at night? Asus x99, i7 5930k, 32g mem, MSI 1070GTX, 970 Samsung M.2, LG 35in Ultra-Wide, TrackIR 4 Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Maverick-90 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 send in some -25T with Mercury Pods and Suu-25 to brighten up the area ;)
RedTiger Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 then how do these birds hunt at night? With night vision goggles! :smartass: As far as Flamming Cliffs go, unless you're using the Su-25T and the mercury pod, you probably won't be. The A-10 would be limited to illumination flares and/or using an IR maverick. But then you're searching through a soda straw. Related to this, I can't remember, did A-10 pilots in Desert Storm have NVGs at the time or were they indeed relying on Mavericks?
Brit_Radar_Dude Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Related to this, I can't remember, did A-10 pilots in Desert Storm have NVGs at the time or were they indeed relying on Mavericks? Read the William L. Smallwood book WARTHOG : Flying the A-10 in the Gulf War ISBN 0-02-881123-2 for a great insight into A-10 tactics (day and night). No NVG's (the aircraft had not been tweaked for NVG use), only flares and Mavericks. They had been taught in training "Do NOT use IR Mav's to search for targets at night" as you will end up flying straight and level with your head inside the pit and thus be vulnerable to SAM/AAA. But in Desert Storm they ignored that. Seems that if they were above about 5,000ft they could not be heard by enemy troops on the ground. Unless the enemy were using radar (and thus likely to get HARM'ed) they were pretty safe at night. The issue with using NVG's in an aircraft is that the brightness of the dashboard lights in your cockpit need to be altered to be much dimmer so they don't blind you when you are using the goggles. A-10 pilots were initially reluctant to be tasked to night flying, they thought they would be much more vulnerable. As it turned out they were safer, not a single A-10 was lost on night missions. july865 Posted April 5, 2010 Author Posted April 5, 2010 brit is this in the later versions of the A10 or current?? Asus x99, i7 5930k, 32g mem, MSI 1070GTX, 970 Samsung M.2, LG 35in Ultra-Wide, TrackIR 4 Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
joey45 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 the A version.. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Brit_Radar_Dude Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 As joey45 said - the A-10A version is what they had in 1991 in the Gulf.... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum....
july865 Posted April 5, 2010 Author Posted April 5, 2010 last night on the, military channel was this very topic (a/c). it seems as though the "all analog" A10 was in use in Kosavo at night on a regular basis. I don't recall what version A10, but it was(they) were stationed out of Maryland. well I guess we can hope for a retro-fit.
