My Post on this subject has been ignored

I posted the day after downloading FC2 (2 weeks ago) on this subject and had nothing but a stony silence.

I have had only instability and unpredictable behaviour from the GUI controls/Key bindings interface. Problems have included,

  1. Saved keybindings for any AC when re-loaded bear no resemblence to the set saved.
  2. Particularly with the A10 but not only that AC, entire device interface colums are totally blanked and inaccessible.
  3. A previous set of keybindings that worked perfectly when originally set(and saved) are unuseable when re-loaded.
  4. Individual key bindings that worked fine, suddenly and without any input or alteration from me become "locked out" and refuse to work, a good example is the "pause/Break" key that now refuses to function, thus preventing any access to mission starting. (bit of a GAME BREAKER this one).

I posted this problem very soon after installing the game with details of my RIG and screenshots to illustrate, yet while my "game broken" problem was ignored there were ppl have lavish interest and elaborate help proffered for what can only be regarded asminor niggles. It would have been completely understandable if the problem was so difficult to solve that it was going to take some time... but I didnt even get a aknowledgment that it had been looked at!

You can't "save profile" in an aircraft an load it in another. You'll brake some lua files (reinstall the game if you did).

In fact you don't even need to save profile, just setup it and click OK. Save profile is just for backups or for having multiple profiles. Even then, the saved profile identifies joystick axis, etc by an ID, and if you change Windows or even reinstall the game, those ID "might" not be the same again, as far as I know.

Hi Ogreman,

I also made the mistake of saving the profile as I was going along thinking I would be able to use it if I had to re-install at a later date. When that happened and I re-installed I had the same result you discribe.

I've now tried saving my [ Lockon Flaming Cliffs 2\config\input\aircraft\a-10a ] file as a back up. As well as the other aircraft that I have programed. In these folders your individually ID'd controllers are saved. Just remember to back them up again if you make any changes.

I haven't tried this method yet to confirm if it saves the programming but we know the save profile method doesn't work. So this maybe the next best way. After the next re-install I'll overwrite the clean ones (after backing them up) with the saved aircraft files and see what happens.

I experienced the same thing with DCS:BS after it was released. The controls/bindings interface was always a bit flaky for me in DCS:BS and FC2 is using the same thing. I would change stuff, get in the pit and have it be incorrect, go back into the settings and see all kinds of strange setups, etc. It was also very wierd with saving/loading from that screen so I stopped doing it. I also found going into the screen multiple times caused issues.

It could be they've improved it for FC2 and its better, but I wouldn't be shocked if it still had issues.

For BS I ended up doing a clean install, never using save/load, and was able to get it working ok. There are certain things you do that can get it really hosed up though. I posted some of my experiences here.

Good luck. I'd say do a clean install, never use save/load, and only make the absolute minimal changes you need. Get in and get out quickly and then leave it be :)

If this is the bug where sacving the A-10 profile in game causes the key commands to be nuked off your profile then I have already reported it.

Thanks Distiller,

If only the manual made this fact clearer, along with the "intended use for the load/save profile function... there are I am sure lots of ppl having a difficult and confusing time with this. Well at least I am confused and in distress....
