Su-25 Nav modes - how can I tell which one I'm in?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

Loving the AFM of the Su-25, but I keep getting lost when navigating. The problem is that I don't know which Nav mode I'm in. There's a bank of globes in the bottom right of the cockpit which change depending on which mode I'm in, but I can't seem to find a guide or instructions which show which globes mean which mode? Any ideas?

I printed out the page from the manual which shows the different functions of the display lights. It's on page 55 of the main manual.

A Ha, there it is! Thanks Sarge - I looked through the old FC manual and couldn't find it. Hmm, I own the original LOMAC, FC1 and BS manuals... I wonder if I'll need to buy the new FC2.0 manual at some stage?

The video really doesn't show you much about the new navigation panel, I suspect it was filmed before the new panel was implimented.

Is there a updated video for the navigation panel or are they still making it?

also when I try to watch the SU-25 navigation 3 video it says it is private?

However, there is a (small) bug with the RSBN Short-Range navigation panel operation and an error in the text in the Flight Manual, page 55.

This is due to the fact that FC 2.0 does not have a waypoint #0. Thus when "ППМ1" button is pressed and illuminated, that actually indicates WP #2, "ППМ2" is WP3, "ППМ3" is WP4.

Selected WP in picture below is actually WP3:

Manual for the new navigation panel:

The third picture from the top has a wrong description on it. It should say "Route mode towards WP 3".

That's wp3 in the editor because it uses the take-off point as wp1, but when you enter the cockpit lights are ok from pilots perspective because you don't treat airfield as wp1 (not from mission editor perspective). Perhaps I'm missing something?

when you are in MiG-29S and have WP3 selected, and the pilot in Su-25 has "ППМ2" selected (pressed in and illuminated), both of you have the same WP selected, that is WP3.

oh I understand. But the problem I see is in the mig-29 not in su-25. wp1 for mig-29 is airfield because a somewhat weird behaviour of mission editor, for su-25 is the real first waypoint.

If you don't set the airfield as wp1 (you appear already flying), then the situation perhaps is reversed.

Anyway, as you said, mission editor lacks wp "0" when you take off from the airfield. I'm a bit confused, I'll test again :)
