MBot Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 Perhaps a nice idea for LOMACs successor: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/240798/M/ http://www.airliners.net/open.file/168770/M/ http://www.airliners.net/open.file/141846/M/ http://www.airliners.net/open.file/540813/M/ http://www.airliners.net/open.file/569736/M/ http://www.airliners.net/open.file/566034/M/ http://www.airliners.net/open.file/518847/M/

ThirdELTPoznan Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 It's so called DOL here in Poland (Drogowy Odcinek Lotniczy/Lotniskowy). I've read some time ago about it. I'll try to find link to that site, but unfortunatly it is only in Polish GROM- Grupa Reagowania Operacyjno Manewrowego
ThirdELTPoznan Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 Here it is: http://www.czasopismawlop.mil.pl/wiraze/w_numerzew/archiwumw/12-2003/dolb.htm Sorry but I don't have time to translate now  Maybe try translator: http://www.poltran.com GROM- Grupa Reagowania Operacyjno Manewrowego
KuostA Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 Shouldnt be too hard to implement..I mean we DO have the landable highways and roads in Lomac as of now, So it should be just a matter of being able to set youreslf on a particular highway for takeoff/landing in the mission editor, and incorporate it into missions. Sure would be a joy to be able to launch off a small road and scramble into action right on the battlefield fronts as a few allied tanks roll by!

Some airforces do this for their training while others would never do it(US). Its actually quite interesting having a FARPs type setup in the editor which could be deployed on the map that gives the pilots the option in a post nuclear scenario. Would certainly make for a good mod. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]

Since Flanker 2.5 we could land on roads ;) Some good missions made use of that - the workaround is that you have to set the mission up, fly to the highway strip, and then save and use the save game as a mission file. Highways don't have ILS in any case, so the only thing you could really add is a tweak to the code allowing you to start, say "From Highway", and allow spawn points on roads. Hmmmn . . . . . just thinking here . . . . . is SwingKid around? Is it possible to get SkyWars to generate a FARP around a straight length of highway? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
MBot Posted April 26, 2005 Author Posted April 26, 2005 The main problem I guess is the AI. From my reading here I got the impression that programming the AI to use any individual airbase is a major task. I guess ED would have to programm airbase operations for specific road sections. The other problem I see is that there are no suitable roads on the Lock On map. They are IMO all too narrow for save operations. I don't know if some of the roads in Lock On are too small or if there realy are no highways ( freeway, Autobahn, however you call it ) in that region. And there is of course the question if such highway strips are beeing used in Russia at all. As far as I know you don't just take any road section to use as an forward airbase, but there are specific roads that are beeing prepared for such use ( including accompanying infrastructure ). So the exact location for any enventual road strip in the region should be known. A completly different matter are helo ( or Harrier ) FARPs, wich are mobile in nature. I realy hope we can build such FARPs in the editor in 1.2 with AI that can handel it.
SUBS17 Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 Same with setting up portable arrester kit for some NATO countries. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
MBot Posted April 27, 2005 Author Posted April 27, 2005 Ah, perhaps they can reuse some of the aircraft carrier code ( -> free placeable, AI usable airbase with arresting kits ). And for the helo FARPs perhaps they can use code from the shipborn helo decks.
