159th_Viper Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 A breath of Fresh Air - Constructive Input based on substantive fact/experience. Now, a green tank parked in the middle of a green patch of land would not be easily distinguishable while flying 5000 feet at 500km/h (given my experience of flying as passenger on airliners and small planes). Again: An input from an experienced recon pilot "for the average pilot (who has been trained in recognition – sliding scale here also) spotting a potential target would be in the region of 1000-1500ft slant range. To identify type you would probably have to overfly or receive info from other sources (JTAC etc) " Makes a welcome change from 'I cannot spot Ground Units any more so ED's modelling is FUBAR . If one has an issue with a certain aspect of the simulation then by all means go ahead and let it be known. Have the courtesy however to be able to back up your submissions with fact other than one's 'Gut Feelings/Opinions', especially when advocating change. Said change was already incorporated by having due regard to SME (Subject Matter Experts) input as stated above and not plucked from thin air. Various screenies have shown that if you know where to look, Ground Units are easily spotted from as far as 2-3nm distant at default cockpit view - no zoom. The converse holds true too: Not knowing where to look makes spotting said units virtually impossible to successfully locate in the first instance, especially having regard to closure rates. Honestly cannot understand how this can be perceived as 'Unrealistic'. Seems as if we were all too spoilt by 'Crank down my AA and Spot the Black-Box' from 100km distant syndrome that has now been exterminated, quite successfully I might add. Prophet Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Interesting that I have yet to see anyone with any real world experience spotting armor/vehicles at a distance have expressed any problem. The sim is still easier to spot that IRL. 1

Some airlines offer those LCD displays on back of the seats as an entertainment center, which also can display your current altitude, speed and position on a map. On domestic flights or cheaper routes that does not have this, normally the pilot makes an announcement to the passengers and tell them current altitude and speed. Also (only in US and Canada) you can track any flight using a service like http://flightaware.com/ that tracks any commercial flight, showing alt and speed. Finally, en-route charts are publicly accessible and available (FSX users like me use them a lot :)), and they often contain the range of altitudes for that route.

They have something like that in Europe aswell... it was shown on some sites during the volcano eruption. You could see the how some of the airspace was devoid of air traffic. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

JLZ Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 ^^ ... And rest of us could be passengers so we could see are those targets visible or not? Cool! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Robin_Hood Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 RL pilots don't lie either :) If a fighter pilot tells it, it's a goddamn lie  Sorry, I couldn't resist 2nd French Fighter Squadron
