Toasting Aces Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 To all: After spending hours installing, attempting to begin training, looking around and around for answers, I can't seem to get the training to work. First I installed Lock On Modern Air Combat, and I tried to launch the Training unsuccessfully. Then I installed Lock On Flaming Cliffs 2, and I tried to launch the Training unsuccessfully. I have spent hours trying to get thing started and learn more about this amazing program. What do I need to do to solve this problem. It will help you to know: I use Windows XP Professional, SP3. Direct X has been installed, the right version, during installation. The preliminary screens to both of these discs plays okay. I just can't get the training to start. With MAC, the system can't find the file. With FC2, the launcher.exc encounters a problem and needs to close. What's up with this? Here I am super excited about getting this program up and running, and I can't get training started in either the MAC or FC2. Yet, I am exhausted from all the effort I've put into this thing today. Well, one good thing, with MAC, I did see one or two demos. Good day all, but I've had enough for one day.

Toasting Aces Posted July 24, 2010 Author Posted July 24, 2010 Thank you. However, the first link is written in a language other than English which I do not understand. The second link, seems quite involved, and I'll have to spend more time reading through this information. While I appreciate your effort to provide these links, I wonder why I cannot start training with the information on the disks which came with this program. Why can't I start these training modules? It seems to me that starting my training with these modules is a good place to start. What I need for your to respond to is that question above: Why can't I start these training modules? The extra info which you've provided is great, but I want to start with the program training modules themselves first then I'll build my understanding from there.
104th_Crunch Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Training tracks were removed to save room and make the download smaller. all can be downloaded here http://lockon.co.uk/index.php?scr=products&end_pos=135 Welcome to the forums!
Toasting Aces Posted July 24, 2010 Author Posted July 24, 2010 To help those who choose to respond to my question above, I am including here what I am actually experiencing. On Modern Air Combat: On UPT 1. Introduction: Changing direction with Pitch, Roll, and Yaw. This leads to: Warning / File / Missions \ Tracks \ Training \ Training 0 101.TRK is not found. Now why this is happening, I do not know or understand. On Flaming Cliffs 2: At Lessons Introduction: Changing direction with Pitch, Roll, and Yaw. > Start This leads to: Launcher.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Then I send an error report to Microsoft and the program in the window closes. Now why this is happening, I do not know or understand. One will expect, that when they purchase a program such as this that the training modules on the discs work. Well, on both of my discs on either MAC or FC2 training doesn't work. What can I do to make these modules work? Thank you
Toasting Aces Posted July 24, 2010 Author Posted July 24, 2010 Everything in life is a process! Okay, one of you great fliers informed me of a software download site. Thank you. However, I am still guessing at what to do next. So, here's what I've done so far. I found: FTP 1, FTP 3, HTTP 1, HTTP3 all of which are Setup.Exc files. I'm using Firefox. It has all four downloads ready to run. But it's asking me to insert a disc. Okay, I've tried inserting the MAC disc, but it doesn't recognize it for the download. I've tried inserting the FC2 disc, but it doesn't recognize it for the download (I think I did this too, not sure). I even inserted a brand new DVD-RW into my disc drive, and that isn't working either. Oh geepers! What do I do now?
159th_Viper Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Everything in life is a process! Indeed. What do I do now? Herewith link to English downloads. http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?section=downloads&subcat=50&lang=en Download all the english vids (All the relevant training tracks converted to video), study them and we can take any further questions you might have thereafter :) For what it's worth, upgrades to the engine/developments etc etc has unfortunately had the detrimental effect which you are experiencing now, ie problems with training track playback. Fortunately the majority of all the training material you will need is more easily accessible, starting with the above vids. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? There are 3 files for FC2, setup.exe, setup-1.bin and setup-2.bin, you can download from various http, ftp or torrent. All of them must be in the same folder when you start setup.exe (if you bought the download version, not the dvd). Also, you need to have installed lockon 1 before installing (in another folder) FC2. For training missions go to training then click on "download" and you'll see all videos for download and installation in the website. Also don't forget FC2 1.2.1 patch. But anyway, I can't fully understand your explanations. What is MAC disk? Toasting Aces Posted July 24, 2010 Author Posted July 24, 2010 Patience is most definitely a virtue! Here's where I'm at now: I've managed to get to the LOFC_Training folder. I've opened that folder. I've read the Readme.txt I follow the instructions in the readme file. I open the Index.html folder. I now see seven different links to various training. I click on UPT - Undergraduate Pilot Training I click on 1. Introduction: Changing Direction with Pitch, Roll, and Yaw. And, I'm still confused. Just when I think I'm getting somewhere. Nothing appears! Something about Put Movies Here. That's in the movies folder. So, where are the movies? And how do I get 'em in that folder? What a frustrating experience this has been. But I will remain Patient.

Toasting Aces Posted July 24, 2010 Author Posted July 24, 2010 To Distiler: MAC = Modern Air Combat This is one of the two discs which came with the program I purchased for Lock On Platinum. I think what I need to learn is how to put all the parts into a folder once I've downloaded them. This is all new to me. So, I hope those of you who are responding to my concerns understand how frustrating this can be. I am surprised that the company which sells this program has allowed such a start up problem to exist. But I am dealing with things best I can. Bit torrents is a subject which I've encountered in the past, but I've avoided being involved because of the many legal questions associated with it. I'm not comfortable using that technology until I know it is officially legal. In any event, what do I do once Firefox has downloaded the file? How do I get the file into the right folder?
Distiler Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 (edited) ahh so you have the discs, ok, I thought you had the download version. I don't know what are you really doing but seem like you're mixing things or doing something wrong, it's pretty simple you'll see. This is the way it should be I guess (I have the download version but has to be similar): 1-Install Lockon (don't play this one, it's there just to allow you to install FC2. UBISoft legal binding orders for Eagle Dynamics) 2-Install Lockon: Flaming Cliffs 2 (in another folder, it's another simulator separated from the previous Lockon you've just installed) and play/execute it to activate Starforce 3-Download training videos from website and double click them to install the videos (no need to move files and create forlders manually). There are 6 files to download in total, with many videos once installed (like 5 GB of videos). 4-Play Lockon: Flaming Cliffs 2 (two desktop icons, one for single player and another for multiplayer). No need of 1.2.1 patch if you have the platinum pack. Done PD: if you're using Vista or W7 try to install outside /program files folder and install as an administrator (right click on the installator and "run as an administrator"). PD2: btw it's called lomac=lock on modern air combat, or simply lockon, mac sounds like apple to me XD Edited July 30, 2010 by Distiler AMD Ryzen 1400 // 16 GB DDR4 2933Mhz // Nvidia 1060 6GB // W10 64bit // Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2
nomdeplume Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Bit torrents is a subject which I've encountered in the past, but I've avoided being involved because of the many legal questions associated with it. I'm not comfortable using that technology until I know it is officially legal. This makes about as much sense as saying you're not comfortable using HTTP (i.e. the web) since it can be used to download illegal material, or you're not comfortable watching anything on YouTube because it's possible for people to put copyrighted videos there without permission. BitTorrent is just a method for transferring data. If the data being transferred is permitted to be transferred via the copyright holder, then of course it's completely legal. And if the copyright holder places a .torrent on their official download page for their content, then you can pretty confident they're happy with you using it. Whether or not you do is up to you; there might be a bit of a learning curve involved as most web browsers don't support BitTorrent and therefore you'd need to install a BitTorrent client. 3-Download training videos from website and double click them to install the videos (no need to move files and create forlders manually). There are 6 files to download in total, with many videos once installed (like 5 GB of videos). Just in case there's any confusion, when you click on the "Proceed to download" link there are a few links for downloading the file. These just give alternate locations for the file: you only need to download it from one of them. Once done, run it - it's packaged as an installer and will locate your install of FC2 and place its videos into the appropriate folder. I'm not exactly sure why it says "Only for download version of FC2". They should work with disk versions too, as far as I know. If any using the CD version of the game can confirm that..? You mentioned before something about a "LOFC_Training" folder - this is probably for FC1. The training videos for FC2 will be installed under your FC2 install directory, in Training\LOP\en\. If you're still having problems, or just don't want to download them/use all that disk space, the videos are also on ED's YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/eagledcs#g/p
Toasting Aces Posted July 25, 2010 Author Posted July 25, 2010 To my piloting friends: Thank you for entering responses. Actually I'd be lost without a place to go to ask my questions, and I'm happy to see that a few of you have made some comments or suggestions. Distiler, I will be checking into what you've most recently suggested. It sounds helpful. I will keep you posted as to what occurs. Nomdeplume, your explanation about bit torrents is a reasonable argument worth further consideration. I remember when I first heard about bit torrents, I did some reading on it. And I encountered some cautionary material about it. Because of that, I just avoided further review. However, what you've posted seems worth further interest. When I have some more time to learn about this protocol (hope that's the right term) then I will re look the current info on bit torrents. For now, I just wanna get my Lock On Flaming Cliffs 2 program working. General Comment: It seems the game program really utilizes authentic terminology for actually flying aircrafts. I recognize some of the terms used. Is this program an actual training with flight simulators? I can't believe it, but this program seems to be the real thing. Comments on this perception are welcome. Something which I thought about while at work yesterday: When I purchased the program and opened it, I found two discs. Thanks to you folks at this forum, I understand that FC2 needs to run on top of (so-to-speak) MAC. And, I understand now that I need to be playing the FC2. Again, thanks for pointing this out. Now I read the manual which came with the two discs. And I just realized that I never got to enter my: PC LOCK-ON PLAT REG CODE. So, I got to thinking why not? Now the manual says: For Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 2 installation you must have installed either Lock On: Modern Air Combat (which I have done) or Lock On: Flaming Cliffs. Then it says: Insert the Lock On Flaming Cliffs 2 disk in your DVD drive and allow the automatic installer to begin. Then follow the on-screen instructions. Here's the what I realized: I don't ever remember entering the PC LOCK-ON PLAT REG CODE. And I'm wondering: "Why not?" Yet, the installer did in fact put the programs onto my computer with the icons for my desktop. So, I am confused here. I wonder, if I had been asked to enter the REG CODE then perhaps all of this problem of getting the training videos to work would not be such a problem. Ubisoft should have been more responsible in providing better start up instructions. They cannot expect their new customers to have such a higher level of understanding about the things which we all have been discussing in this forum. In my prior attempts to follow some of the great advice some of you have provided. Here's what happened: I did download some previously suggested information. My Firefox program listed the downloads. I hit run to run the download. Then I had to extract the files from a zipped folder. (I have a vague idea about what all this stuff is and what to do.) Then I get to see some folders. I open up the Movie folder and nothing is there, except for this message: "Place video files here." or some similar comment. This left me confused and frustrated. But I had to take care of business, and after several hours of wrestling with this problem--I welcomed the break. Well, that's my most recent update on my progress with this problem. Now, I must try some of the new suggestions. I will keep you all posted on my progress. And to think when I was at the store that all I wanted to do was treat myself to a game, buy it, plug it in and play. Oh my gosh, I feel like I'm back in the United States Air Force. The paperwork and red tape! The procedures! What have I got myself into? I thinks I'm gonna really be a fighter pilot now: Oh boy! I'm excited! I've got to get past this problem. Let me find some time and follow some of your recent instructions. Over and out!
Toasting Aces Posted July 25, 2010 Author Posted July 25, 2010 For those replying to my postings, here's an update: I went back to my manual (the short booklet which came with the program). I wanted to see if I can reinstall FC2 (which, again, I've done successfully). However, during the process I was monitoring whether the installer would ask me for my serial number to activate this program. And, nowhere during this process does it request this serial number to activate the program. Ah ha! See, this is most probably, in my opinion, part of the problem which I've been experiencing with getting the training videos. Furthermore, when I clicked on Training in FC2 and I try to Start the module, I get the message from Microsoft (explained in a prior post) and the program is then shut down after I send the error report. Well, I must get some rest now. But I'll be back at this problem later on today. At which point, I plan on following some of the most current advice provided. I'll keep those of you watching posted. Have a nice day!

Toasting Aces Posted July 25, 2010 Author Posted July 25, 2010 Update on my progress: To Winz: My use of text color was intended to make it somewhat easier for readers. I did not realize it would make reading more difficult, and I will not do this in the future. However, please realize other readers may feel differently. The forum provides an option for text color, and seems to allow use probably to break up the effort of reading text of the same color constantly. If I will use a different text color in any future posts then I will be mindful of its application and use it very sparingly for emphasis only. Thank you for your comment. To Distiler: Re: 07-25-2010, 01:40AM I did follow your recommendation to the LOFC2 software download page. At this page, I located 12 different possible files for the first download. Specifically, for Setup.Exc there are 4 USA files, for Setup-1.Bin there are 4 USA files, and for Setup-2.Bin there are 4 USA files. That's just for this particular download from the eleven possible training software downloads at this site. So, I did the following: >Double clicked on Setup.Exc > FTP1 >Setup(5).Exc appears in Firefox drop down list. >Right Click > Open >OK to executable file >Publisher could not be verified. >Run >Please insert Disk 1 and Click OK. Note: my FC2 disk is in my computer's disk drive. Note: I discovered from my re-reading a part of the instruction manual for this program, under Installation, how to locate the following folders: Setup.Exc, Setup-1.Bin, and Setup-2.Bin. These folders are located on the FC2 disk itself. >I now click OK. Now I get this message: The file "Setup(5)-1.bin" could not be located in "C:\Documents and Settings\...\Downloads". Please insert the correct disk or select another folder. This makes me consider doing one of the following: Option 1: Should I insert the Modern Air Combat disk into my drive and try again? or Option 2: Should I make a special folder on my computer's hard disk? And, if this is what is necessary, then I think I have to go to My Computer and make a folder to hold the download files described above. But I'm not too sure how to do this. What do you think?
nomdeplume Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Re: colours, different people's monitors will display slightly different hues. I find the orange quite difficult to read (had to highlight it). Also, please use the larger font sizes sparingly. I don't think a re-install is necessary; however if you want to start over it can't hurt (just takes a bit more time). Thanks to you folks at this forum, I understand that FC2 needs to run on top of (so-to-speak) LOMAC. FC2 can be considered a "stand-alone" product. It does require you to have LockOn: Modern Air Combat installed prior to installing FC2, because Ubisoft hold the rights to LOMAC. That is merely a contractual formality. FC2 shares no content with the previous game. You can uninstall LOMAC after you have FC2 installed with no ill-effect, other than the inability to play the original LOMAC. Ubisoft just want to get their slice of their pie, even though they don't really have anything to do with FC2 at all. It seems the game program really utilizes authentic terminology for actually flying aircrafts. I recognize some of the terms used. Is this program an actual training with flight simulators? I can't believe it, but this program seems to be the real thing. Comments on this perception are welcome. It's more of a "survey sim". You could liken it to a film that is "based on historical events". There are similarities to the real thing, but the game does not model much of it in detail. The flight models are quite simplistic, with the exception of the Su-25T. Eagle Dynamics also have a line of "study sims", under the Digital Combat Simulator (DCS) name. The first is DCS: Black Shark, which has the Ka-50 attack helicopter. The next, hopefully out this year, will feature the A-10C. These are very detailed simulators with most of the systems and avionics simulated in agonising detail. Compared to DCS, LOMAC and FC2 are very simplified. FC2 does however use the same game engine as the DCS titles, and is network-compatible with DCS: Black Shark. All very interesting I'm sure, but what about your problem? I agree that the lack of activation is likely an issue. Are you able to run FC2 normally? i.e. if you run the game, do you get to the menu, and if you select the option to fly a quick mission and select an aircraft, do you wind up in an aircraft cockpit with a message saying the game is paused? If you get that far, then your game is installed and working properly. If you don't, we should fix that before trying anything else. At this page, I located 12 different possible files for the first download. Specifically, for Setup.Exc there are 4 USA files, for Setup-1.Bin there are 4 USA files, and for Setup-2.Bin there are 4 USA files. The download page lists several sources ("mirrors") of the same files. You only need one copy of each. They provide multiple locations to download it from in case one of the servers is unavailable or slow (they're at different physical locations). Additionally, since you already have the game on DVD you shouldn't need to download the game itself, which I think is what the Setup.exe, Setup-1.bin and Setup-2.bin you are referring to. So, you don't need to re-download the game. The download page does have training videos to help you learn how to fly and utilise the aircraft in combat. These have different names, but are executable files (.exe). When run, they should automatically install into the appropriate folder under your FC2 installation directory.

There are things you folks are discussing which are not totally familiar to me. But I am a quick study, and I'm learning as I go. I have not--and--the attempts I made to follow prior directions--to download what I now understand are program files:setup.exe, setup-1.bin and setup-2.bin. Wow, your understanding of what is actually happening with the development of these programs shows you really are informed. The history of things does lend some perspective to the overall progression of this program. It's more of a "survey sim". You could liken it to a film that is "based on historical events". There are similarities to the real thing, but the game does not model much of it in detail. The flight models are quite simplistic, with the exception of the Su-25T. Well, for now, I'm not up to the Su-25T, but that's nice to know. Eagle Dynamics also have a line of "study sims", under the Digital Combat Simulator (DCS) name. These are very detailed simulators with most of the systems and avionics simulated in agonising detail. Oh "boy", when I get up to finding both the time to learn and use the Black Shark, which has the Ka-50 attack helicopter, then I'm sure I'll find it thrilling. For right now, I just want to get past my problem Distiler and yourself have been commenting upon. Thanks! We'll all figure this out. You say: "Are you able to run FC2 normally? i.e. if you run the game, do you get to the menu?" Yes, I can run FC2, and it does seem to bring me to the home page where I can select Training and other options. However, as you all ready know, the Training videos are not stored on my disks in their respective folders. [Wow, it really took me some trial and error to find those folders. The folders are on my FC2 disk itself, not on my computer's hard drive. This was frustrating for me, but after I re read the installation instructions in the manual I discovered where the folders actually were residing.] You say: " if you select the option to fly a quick mission and select an aircraft, do you wind up in an aircraft cockpit with a message saying the game is paused?" Well, I never got up to selecting to fly a quick mission. And if I did then I'm probably crash the jet. And I don't wanna do that cause my computer will probably crash too. [Hopefully, that made you laugh.] Look, I don't even know how to fly these supersonic contraptions yet. So, I can't tell ya if I wind up in an aircraft cockpit. Hence, I can't tell ya if I got a message saying the game is paused. The download page lists several sources ("mirrors") of the same files. You only need one copy of each. They provide multiple locations to download it from in case one of the servers is unavailable or slow (they're at different physical locations). Regarding what you say here (just above), I need for you to be very specific in terms of what you are actually referring to. I have a vague understanding what is a mirror. I learned about this when I tried to setup my Outlook 2007 program with my Hotmail account. Apparently what is displayed in my Outlook 2007 Hotmail account is a mirror of what is in my actual Hotmail account. So, I believe I understand what you're saying when you reference the term: Mirror. What I need for you to further define is what you are referring to exactly on the download page? Additionally, since you already have the game on DVD you shouldn't need to download the game itself, which I think is what the Setup.exe, Setup-1.bin and Setup-2.bin you are referring to. So, you don't need to re-download the game. Distiler has mentioned this point too. And, again, I have not done this. Nor will my attempts to do so allow me to complete the process. I think I mentioned that I noted 12 separate files in a prior posting. Please review what I typed. However, I understand these 12 files are program files from what Senior Distiler has pointed out. Nomdeplume, are those 12 files mirrors? and are those the four files under each folder just the same files in different locations? Again, I understand these are program files and do not need to be downloaded. But, so I can understand what you mean regarding mirrors and different locations, I am using this as an example. The download page does have training videos to help you learn how to fly and utilise the aircraft in combat. These have different names, but are executable files (.exe). When run, they should automatically install into the appropriate folder under your FC2 installation directory. I think what you mean above is this: When I go to the download page, I remember seeing about 11 or 12 different downloads. Not sure, I'll have to count them again. But I do think the first one is the actual program FC2. And this is what Distiler and you are telling me not to download. Please confirm that I've got this correctly. The other downloads seem to be the training your both talking about. __________ At work yesterday, I got to thinking about this whole situation. And it seems that if I purchased this program as a download online maybe things would have worked out differently. So, I began to consider just returning the program disks to the retailer who sold them to me. And then went to the website for the program and purchased it from there. I have not done this yet. But if things don't work out in the near future then I may just do that as a possible solution to the training issue we've been working on. I am quite annoyed with the software which I purchased. Since it should have been more complete off the shelve. And the instructions in the operations manual of the program are not the best. Out of the box, one should simply put in the disks and get started without problems with this program. I assure you, I will be commenting upon this directly to the company soon. For now, this is my progress on this issue. Over and out.
nomdeplume Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 I think what you mean above is this: When I go to the download page, I remember seeing about 11 or 12 different downloads. Not sure, I'll have to count them again. But I do think the first one is the actual program FC2. And this is what Distiler and you are telling me not to download. Please confirm that I've got this correctly. The other downloads seem to be the training your both talking about. Yes, that's pretty much right. The training videos are named Fighter Weapons School Video A-10A Video F-15C Video Su-27 Video Su-25 Video Su-25T Video For each video, you have a number of choices to download it. These are currently listed for the first video (Fighter_Weapons_School_Video_EN.exe) as FTP 1, FTP 3, HTTP 1 and HTTP 3. There is also the option to download it via BitTorrent. These are just different servers/protocols you can use for downloading the file. You only need to download the file ONCE from ONE of these locations. And it seems that if I purchased this program as a download online maybe things would have worked out differently. I've not used the disk version, but from what I've read here, I gather that it's the same as the download version. I am quite annoyed with the software which I purchased. Since it should have been more complete off the shelve. Well, it should work off the shelf - it seems to work fine for most people. The only real limitation is that it doesn't come with the training videos which would be very helpful, however they are quite large (more than a DVD in themselves) so I can understand why they were left out. And the instructions in the operations manual of the program are not the best. Out of the box, one should simply put in the disks and get started without problems with this program. With due respect, most people don't seem to have problems. There is a certain amount of assumed knowledge though. My main concern is that you mentioned earlier that it crashed (message saying "This program has stopped responding", or similar) - hence my suggestion to just run FC2 and make sure it's all working properly before worrying about the training videos. Also bear in mind that the videos can be watched online on YouTube, if you prefer not to bother downloading and installing them. While they are instructive, you're only likely to watch them at most a few times each. I assure you, I will be commenting upon this directly to the company soon. Well, this forum is run by (and read by) the developers of the game, so it doesn't get all that much more direct than this, really.
Toasting Aces Posted July 26, 2010 Author Posted July 26, 2010 To Nomdeplume: Thank you for your most recent comment. There's no time no for me to proceed with further efforts to solve this problem. However, I will be back later to do so. For now, a new comment and a simple question: New comment: What concerns me is when I download a training video, whether it will find its way to the FC2 disk in my disk drive. I don't think this will occur simply because I don't know if the disk is a DVD-RW. My suspicion is that it is a DVD-Read Only or DVD-V [i'm not sure what the correct tech spec' is to describe what I'm saying now about the status of the disk itself. But I know you get the idea of what I'm writing about] For this reason, I don't think further efforts to download the training video(s) will save properly to the game program itself on disk, which is where the actual folders reside. I will report more on this later, but this is what I expect will occur when I attempt to download the training video(s). Unless they will automatically directed to and saved to my hard drive. We'll see, more on this later. Simple question: When you respond to my post and you quote parts of it, I am wondering how you get to select only that portion of my post writing which you want to quote and respond to without making multiple replies. For example, you may quote one item and respond to it. And then after making your response, you quote something else from my post. However, you're still within your same response window. I see the little selections on he lower right of a post, but I'm not sure how you're doing things piece by piece in the same response window. How are you doing this? Please be specific. I can't spend much more time on this now, but I do have other things to say regarding your recent post. More later. Good day.
