Hello!

When I start my FC2, everything runs well, but when I launch a mission I'm forced to my desktop and the FC2 shuts down. Then I must wait for around 1-2 minutes for the little "Lock on: Flaming cliffs 2.0" loading image (with the fighter diving) to appear and after that the FC2 will start loading the mission, it's textures etc. ...I would like to know what causes this or why there's this "break" - if I may call it so.

I remember having similar "problem" in BS, but it was fixed somehow, most likely because of patching. I haven't yet run to an FC2 topic similar to mine, so I decided to ask if it's the same reason that applied to slow BS launch... The reason in BS, if I remember correctly, was that there were 2 different programs: the launcher and the game itself and they tended to have a small break in between before one could start... But again, the problem was fixed for me in BS, so I'm quite confused why does the FC2 then have this issue.

Thank you for your time  Hope you can help me :smilewink:

Well, in FC2 you have the same. The icon starts launcher.exe and when you select the mission it starts simulator.exe.

On my system when I select a mission it starts with the briefing screen, then it takes a couple of seconds before I get the small window with the two fighters, then it switches to the runway-screen and this takes about 15 seconds to load everything for the mission.

All in all maybe 20 seconds?

What are you system specs - hardware and OS? Dxdiag output might be helpful, too. See this thread for how to get that.

You could also try (temporarily) disabling any anti-virus and similar software that might somehow delay the launching of the simulator.

How long does the multiplayer client take to start up? (The MP client only runs simulator.exe)

Hello again!

Here's the DxDiag.

The multiplayer is much more faster: When I double click the icon the loading image will appear after 30 seconds and following it comes the MP screen with "Client" "Server" "Exit" and "Options". Joining a server is fast, since the loading screen with the HUD follows instantly after clicking "Join".

Btw, the whole process of singleplayer (from going into briefing and clicking "Fly"/"Start mission"(whichever it was) to getting into the screen where you are sitting in your fighter and there's the "Press 'Pause' to continue flying" text) takes around 1-2 min, that's what I ment.

...so yea, seems it's very slow compared to your (hsth) process

Thanks in advance :pilotfly:

Thanks for the tip :)

Although the "Game booster" didn't affect FC2 that much (atleast it didn't affect the long loading), I think it could be useful in the future, since there's a lot of crap in my computer slowing it down and future games will require more power.

...so still hunting for the solution :helpsmilie:

To understand why one loads faster than the other you need to understand that single player are two executables/two phases, one for the new UI (launcher.exe) and one when you enter the cockpit (simulator.exe). In multiplayer you only load one executable (simulator.exe), the one to enter the cockpit that also loads a very basic multiplayer UI.

Defraging the hard drive and installing the simulator outside /program files helps. Also helps adding an exception to the antivirus for the simulator folder and subfolders.

What's your hard disk activity like during this? Takes about 12 seconds to go from clicking the icon to being at the multiplayer menu screen for me; about 5 seconds for the initial FC2 splash image to appear, then it minimizes and the loading screen appears full-screen at about 9-10 seconds in.

I am running from an SSD so it might be a bit faster, but I would think the data it needs would be cached if you ran it a second time. Is there any significant difference in startup times if you do it a few times in a row?

I have no idea what the game does during startup, but you could try unplugging any input devices you don't use with the game to see if makes a difference. Not sure what else it might look at.

I had the same problem, and in extreme cases (which is mine) only re-installing OS woud help. Looks like that a Win7 is more prone to OOSS (old operating system sindrome :smilewink:) than XP.

Also, if you have 2 hard drives, dedicate one of them to LOFC 2 (games generaly), and on the other fill up with music and other garbage.
