andysim Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Im reminded of a post on the Avsim forum a very long time ago. A guy asked a question that no one could answer and the post grew to hunderds of pages of random posts.
moonbeast Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Those Star Wars games in the 90's were classic, shame ED couldn't do a high fidelity one today, maybe if they won a contract with Lucas Arts to train X-wing pilots !
GGTharos Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Who told you they don't have a contract with the Emperor yet? Those Star Wars games in the 90's were classic, shame ED couldn't do a high fidelity one today, maybe if they won a contract with Lucas Arts to train X-wing pilots ! dsobbe Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 (edited) Chromewasp, It sounds like you may have accidently pressed the [r] (route) key without a waypoint entered or selected in the PVI. If the Altitude Hold Switch is in the center position the route indicator light on the left overhead panel will not light when the Route mode [r] is engaged. The result is that you will be fighting the autopilot for control without any indicatation that the autopilot is engaged. That one drove me nuts until I learned how to use the autopilot navigation functions. As to your comment about the flight manual. I think a computer user, pilot or not, mentally expects the Flight Manual to be a "user" manual. At first I did. But, in fact, the Flight Manual is written in pretty much the same form as most of the aircraft operating manuals I've used. They don't teach usage, they inform you as to what is there and, in some cases, provide checklists. It's your responsibility to learn and understand the use of each item. By the way. Is a type rating required to act as PIC, pilot in command, of a paper bag?:smilewink: Edited August 13, 2010 by dsobbe
Toxe Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Oh noes, woe is me. Missing an epic thread like this. Serves me right for not reading ED forum for a week. :music_whistling:
ChromeWasp Posted August 13, 2010 Author Posted August 13, 2010 If the Altitude Hold Switch is in the center position I discovered that center position before - and it isn't mentioned in the manual what does it do?
Steel Jaw Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Oh noes, woe is me. Missing an epic thread like this. Serves me right for not reading ED forum for a week. :music_whistling: "Epic" is not the word I would use. :D "You see, IronHand is my thing" My specs: W10 Pro, I5/11600K o/c to 4800 @1.32v, 64 GB 3200 XML RAM, Red Dragon 7800XT/16GB, monitor: GIGABYTE M32QC 32" (31.5" Viewable) QHD 2560 x 1440 (2K) 165Hz.
Sherlock Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Screw it, let's keep it going. Do you know if had force feedback rudder pedals if BS would use them? Do the pedals use the say trim scheme in the real ship as the sim?
moonbeast Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Who told you they don't have a contract with the Emperor yet? I take that as a hint then and what to expect after DCS A10 C !!! will the X-wing have the ability to open and shut its wings just like in the movie, also will fuel management be utilised ? will there be a sort of holographic moving map display with smart targeting available ? also what kind of noise would the lasers make when fired will it be realistic ? will complex microwave commlink communications be involved so you can talk to other wings, strike packages, bases, towers be used ? Will some historical missions be thrown is such as the battle of Yavin ? will there be interactive training just like the DCS KA 50 ? Would there be a follow up perhaps of say a TIE-Fighter simulation (I've always wanted to fly a TIE-Interceptor a bit like the one Darth Vader had)
GGTharos Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 There are several rebel and imperial fighter and bomber-craft that could be the subject of the next module, but right now ED has not settled on one ;) Naturally it will have more fidelity than Ka-50, and you may discover some things about your favorite spacecraft that you did not know! moonbeast Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Oh and would an astromech be modelled such as R2-D2 that would notify you of mechanical failures via a sort of Ekran type display or even making bleep bleep noises that you would have to interpret via the manual (ring binder of course) that comes with the game in a big box just like the 90's ?
Steel Jaw Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Tie Fighter rocked back in the day. "You see, IronHand is my thing" My specs: W10 Pro, I5/11600K o/c to 4800 @1.32v, 64 GB 3200 XML RAM, Red Dragon 7800XT/16GB, monitor: GIGABYTE M32QC 32" (31.5" Viewable) QHD 2560 x 1440 (2K) 165Hz.
GGTharos Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Yes astromechs will be modeled in detail, manual will be PDF as usual but you will have the option of a translator cheat. andysim Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 OOO. Look forward to that. Although can you turn off the tracking computer and use the "Force"?.
GGTharos Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 This is about realism, not some made-up laser-sword religion. Your fire control computer will be your most accurate tool. vortex360 Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010  ----------- :joystick: - why won't my crappy PC run this sim on 1920X1200 ! !! RAGE ! ----------- You've convinced me to uninstall - Thank You - Back to Longbow 2 LP-out- ----------- Mine ran cruddy for awhile and now I'm running everything on high including the water.
dsobbe Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I discovered that center position before - and it isn't mentioned in the manual what does it do? I noticed that, too. As far as I can tell its an off or null position. Maybe someone more knowledgeable about it could jump in here. As part of my preflight cockpit check I always set that switch off center, usually back, just so the Route indicator light will go on if the [R] key unintentionally gets pressed while I'm trying to put out a fire, select a weapon, evade SAM's, issue orders to a wingman and wind my watch at the same time. That has saved me a lot frustration.
Mercury Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 To ChromeWasp: Watch all of the producer's notes from Matt Wagner and forget the manual for a little while. Here's all the guidance you'll ever need. The rest its up to you to improvise once in combat. A sample - (Part 4 - Navigation... one the most important ones) This is how I got started. I barely used the manual. Once in combat there's no room for a manual. Look at the producer's notes then take a look at what you're doing and compare. After you successfully execute all the moves Matt Wagner did in the producer's notes read the manual a thousand times if you wish. Scooternutz Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I can't believe this is the 8th all time for posts in the non sticky category. I am simply adding to it by making this post. [sIGPIC]https://drive.google.com/file/d/16rUBmmJR7A3YGZVGPGskxG1XtvulGojJ/view?usp=sharing[/sIGPIC]
EtherealN Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Once in combat there's no room for producer's notes either. The manual is there for a reason - you study it and learn to handle the systems. Obviously proper studying techniques are required: don't read it back-to-back and expect to know everything, you need a curriculum and practice on each thing. Plan your studies and do things one thing at a time.
