Nate Dogg Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 Finally had part of my 21st present, the initial flying lesson. I was suposed to have it on monday morning but we were fogged in. So finally i got down to the airport and got up flying. I got to do the take off, with a bit of help on the rudder peddels, and most of the flight, doing basically anything i wanted ie steep turns, dives and climbs. Went up in a Piper PA-28 Warrior 2, a nice little bird but still had a decent amount of grunt. needless to say i was so excited, and for those who wondered like i did, if fs2004 was anything like the real thing? I would say not really, the basics are there but the feeling/bumps just doesn't even come close! The controlls are much easier in real life except the rudder to some extent, but then i don't have a yoke or peddels, just my pro throttle and ff2. Now all i need to do is save my money so i can continue and get my ppl. For those who have thought about flying for real, DO IT NOW! Its the best thing ever and im sure everyone else who has flown would say the same! Cheers people

Vosxod Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 Hey, I did some 30 min flight on exact same bird! :) Nice little plane. Did you notice how you have to constantly work that vert trim wheel? I never tried fs2004 or any of those ms things, but compared with IL2 - nothing like in the game... New IL2 patch will make it mach closer to real life though ... :)
Nate Dogg Posted May 14, 2005 Author Posted May 14, 2005 Didn't really use the trim wheel, coz i was just stuffing around doing lots of turns and things so i wasn't to worried about that, i did have a little play with the trim to get a feel for it. Sadly i have to wait over a week before my next lesson! I too am looking forward to the IL-2 patch to come out, haven't checked for a while is it out? cheers
SUBS17 Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 Of all the flight sims I've played the Su25T is the one that feels the most realistic. You should practice with that doing circuits, just remember though that those prop trainers don't carry chutes or ejection seats. It gives a better feeling of climbing and descending as well as good practice of trimming and likewise rudder pedals fuction exactly the way they should, just remember to keep the ball in the centre. leafer Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 Congradulations! Now, you have to try ultralight; it's much more fun than the big ones! Most importantly, it's a lot and I mean a lot cheaper to get into. cheers ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
Megile Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 Cool :D I remember my first flight... nervous yet excited. I flew from a large international airport, and as we taxiid out in the tiny Piper Cherokee, I could see Boeing 747s and big Airbuses driving about the place. We finally turned on to the runway... I closed my eyes, put my hands on my Hotas, and went to full burner... opened my eyes, and pushed the throttle slowly in :D Suprisingly easy to fly... FS2004 gives a different impression
Nate Dogg Posted May 15, 2005 Author Posted May 15, 2005 one of my mates is into the ultralights, says they rule! Might have to give them a go. How many people in these forums have flown/have a pilots licence for real?
169th_Cobra Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 well done mate! Went up in a Piper PA-28 Warrior 2, a nice little bird but still had a decent amount of grunt. hahaha i'm going to save that quote and send it to you later on to see if your perception has changed lol.
Nate Dogg Posted May 15, 2005 Author Posted May 15, 2005 LOL im sure it will, but when i have nothing to compare it to but FS2004 its seem alright! Once ive flow a few others im sure it will seem like a slow ant! Everything seems to feel quickish, untill you have something to compare it too. Just like my magna! cheers
