socal500 Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Fired up some BS this evening and noticed something happening that had not happened before. I did my normal routine of enabling auto hover, las, selecting target type and turn to target. What happens normally is that I can select HMS and look around slowing to find the target area and the heli yaws to stay pointed in the direction of the target. For some reason now this happens for just a short period then the heli just starts to rotate on its own. I can force it back into line and it might stay for a little bit but then starts turning again.
Nate--IRL-- Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 It's probably wind speed being too high for the Autopilot to correct against. Also it'd be worth checking rudder trim with CTRL-ENTER Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
ChromeWasp Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 either reset rudder trim (double tap z or x) or if hovering over a slope / near objects you need to counteract unbalanced ground effect / rotor wash (usually with plenty of rudder) fly it by hand till it holds then release trim
socal500 Posted September 3, 2010 Author Posted September 3, 2010 (edited) Im over level ground and high enough for it not to matter. It seems to do it when I have HMS and holding uncage to look around and designate target area. I hit T a few times after it started spinning but and it went back to target but started doing it again shortly after. This is on the quick mission, which I flown so many times I cannot count it. I have never experienced this issue before. Edited September 3, 2010 by socal500
sweinhart3 Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Ive had situtations and Im not sure why it does it, but if you are say locked to a moving target and it moves out of the gimbal limits of the shkval or for whatever reason breaks its focus point, (this seems to happen a lot when Im trying to focus the shkval on something in the distance without firing the ranging laser), it will start moving by itself in some random direction to a corner in its limits. If you have turn to target selected when this happens while pressing the cage button, you'll spin your aircraft. Dont know if this is a bug or how the real thing works as far as the shkval behaviour, but Ive never had a problem with the chopper spinning in this scenario unless I was playing around and kept the cage button depressed while using HMS and looking around. There were other times Ive had spinning chopper problem but was unable to figure out the cause. Intel i7 990X, 6GB DDR3, Nvidia GTX 470 x2 SLI, Win 7 x64 http://picasaweb.google.com/sweinhart
power5 Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 Yeah, I have had the problem too. Always when turn to target is used. Sometimes I am just slewing the shkval around in front of the heli and it spins around. Have no idea what it could be looking for as the target is in front not behind. Little yellow box on abris is even in the correct location when it spins around. socal500 Posted September 4, 2010 Author Posted September 4, 2010 Apparently mine was a FlightStick Driver issue. I removed and installed it again and the problem went away.
Slayer Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 Look down at your virtual rudder pedals and see where they are at when this happens or ctrl-enter....odds are its your rudder. ChromeWasp Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 also the PID controllers for turn to target are not very good and they can oscillate badly - if the helicopter is turning quickly you need to give the AP a helping hand with a touch of antitorque otherwise it will overshoot the target
