titusou Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 Hi all, I've been silently watching this board for over a year. Today I decide it's time to kick start and I got my CAD draw finished. My pit project is simple: - An ACES II seat with side table for TM Cougar - Ability to use with TM Warthog (center stick placeholder) - 12mm flat board only (with 30x30mm column for reinforcement), no curve for easy build - Parachute container to be build with paper, again, easy build - No need to be 100% size accurate - Spare space used as storage area I do need some help on size check. Although I'm not aiming for 100% size accurate, I do still like to have it "similar" to actual size. Therefore if you saw any size is way off, please lemme know. Any help would be very welcome. CAD is draw with Google Sketchup, with refer to lots of photos, 1:48 model, HowToAceII.pdf. Total time is about 4hrs planning, 8hrs drawing, over a year watching this board...;ppp
titusou Posted September 5, 2010 Author Posted September 5, 2010 Parachute container (paper made) added, should help to visualize the full look
Triggerhappy69 Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Excellent job mate..! It's strange, but you'll get a much better feeling of immersion just from being seated in a chair like this.. I promise you..! I would maybe tr to curve the back just a little. Or at least use padding that does this for you.. And I'm talking from my own back-aching experience.. LoL. walker450 Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Cool! And I totally agree with Triggerhappy, a seat alone does add immersion. Speedpad for Inputs | My Simpit | Joystick Damper Mod
titusou Posted September 10, 2010 Author Posted September 10, 2010 I take Triggerhappy's advice, make the back simple curved...:) Also add central stick mount for TM Warthog, assuming that it's d=110mm, 62x62mm square placement for screw. All gear tables are in yellow, and paper parts are in blue. Now I need to finish the size checking, then I can get boards cutted in about 1month time...:)
PlainSight Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 So you'll essentially build the rest of the pit around a chair? Very cool idea, i must say. [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Schredder Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Hi ! This thing looks great ! Finally someone who thinks like me... Yet, here two things that "jumped" to my eyes... I would consider removing the upper edges of the seat (as Im convinced they will not "get along" with my legs. and I'm pretty fit...) marked on edited picture with no.1 I don't really understand what is the angle marked with question mark no.2 It look's like it's too small. and more than It will not be the most comfy to sit at, it may cause some back problems... I would go on,say +95 degrees ... (if you can place two plates over some sort of a jig you could find the best angle that will suit you and apply it on the design...) Sure it's only my opinion. BBQ Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 The upper edges are from the original AcesII plans. Also, angle number 2 that you had a question about--I'm pretty sure it is not 90 degrees, as pilots are sort of laid back a bit, sort of like space shuttle pilots--but not to that extreme. Some brainiacs over the past 60 years figured out that is the "best" sitting position, at least for fighters? Would be interested to hear other's ideas on this-- BTW--TT--you've inspired me--I'm doing a very similar pit. Thanks for sharing! Hi ! This thing looks great ! Finally someone who thinks like me... Krebs20 Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Nice work so far. Do you plan to attach the desk to the chair as one pit or leave it in 2 pieces? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
titusou Posted September 18, 2010 Author Posted September 18, 2010 Latest progress, added head-rest, purple color parts, plan to made in foam The rear side of back rack, is laid 18deg. The seat, is kickup 18deg So, yes, the cross-angle is 90deg on the back/seat corner. But you actually seat at 18deg back, not 90deg upright to horizontal plane. A cutoff, hopefully explain better
Deadman Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 looks good  FYI A-10, F-15 seats are at 15 degrees and F-116 at 30 degrees https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
titusou Posted September 19, 2010 Author Posted September 19, 2010 Thanks Deadman, yes I aware A-10/F-15 is 15deg, F-16 is 30deg :) But it looks like for A-10/F-15, the seat is actually install 3~4deg nose down, makes the back 15deg angle, and F-16 is install with 12deg kickup, make the back 30deg angle, am I right? For me, I want the sideline of seat bulkhead to be horizontal, so my back is actually 18deg, not 15deg (which would make seat sideline 3deg nose down) ..:)
