SAM-Smasher Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 I had ordered the CD, havent got it yet, so last night I downloaded it, so now I have two copies incase something goes wrong :) Anyway I want to say a big thank you to ED for all the hard work you have put in with this addon, I am REALLY impressed, I have the original version up to 1.02 and in FC 1.1 the simulation now feels much better, the radars, the HUD avionics, the AI etc etc! I have only started the SU-27 "Hot Wind" ( sorry that title is a killer lol ) campaign on mission 4 I think, and the initial impression I have is very good, its detailed there is lots of background information associated with each stage, and you have a clear idea of what is expected of you in each mission and WHY you are doing it :) great immersion! Another thing is I seem to have gained a massive performance boost with 1.1, im getting around 43FPS in combat at 1600x1200 4xAA 8xAF all settings whacked at max except water and scene file at Medium using a Gigabyte ATI Radeon X800XT PE 256mb vid card and 2 Gig of RAM. Was there any working of the code to increase performance at all, because this is brilliant!! I am DEFINATLEY hanging on for 1.2 and I WILL buy it :) your work is much appreciated please continue, your time is not wasted ED. Anyone else as happy as me? or am I just being a grubby little fanboy ;) "I love smashing the crap out of those buggers on the ground who keep making a beeping sound on my RWR..... the bells the bells!!!!!!.... erm yeah.... Kenan Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 Agree. I downloaded the game yesterday and so far I'm pretty happy with its features. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Commanding Officer of: 2nd Company 1st financial guard battalion "Mrcine" See our squads here and our . Croatian radio chat for DCS World
Guest ThomasDWeiss Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 I got it a month ago - and I am spending a lot of time with it.
VapoR Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 Most of us aren't saying much about it cause we are too busy flying it!! Besides some minor flaws, it's a great piece of work . . .
SAM-Smasher Posted May 13, 2005 Author Posted May 13, 2005 LOL normally I am too busy flying it, but im at work so I have some time to shout about it :) "I love smashing the crap out of those buggers on the ground who keep making a beeping sound on my RWR..... the bells the bells!!!!!!.... erm yeah.... 169th_Viking Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 SAM-Smasher. What CPU do you have? Thinking of buying a new graphics card.I have a P4 2.8,ATI 9700 PRO,1GB RAM.Looking for a 800 or 850. What improvement in FR would I expect? Viking.
SAM-Smasher Posted May 13, 2005 Author Posted May 13, 2005 I have a P4 2.8 HT same as you, the hyperthreading doesnt matter because LOMAC doesnt support it as we all know :) From a 9700 hmmm You are looking at a HUGE framerate increase, the X800XT PE 256 which I have does not struggle with the graphics at all at the highest res. I get about 60 - 80 FPS in leve flight on route to a target 35 -43 FPS in a medium size air engagement and about 30 -35 over towns in a complex mission environment. I think I would get a more stable level of framerate but my Soundcard sucks :(, it doesnt like lots of sounds or loud sounds... although zzzspace's sound packs seem to help. I have my graphics settings on full like I mentioned EXCEPT water ( Medium ) Scene File ( Medium ) I dont think the water on medium is that important, im still testing that, I think the Scene File has a more adverse affect on framerate. You can expect to fork out serious money for my vid card and the 850, I gulped when I spent the money... but when you get the card, you SEE the difference and FEEL the difference in the simulation :) i soon forgot about the damage to my bank account ;) I hope this is of some help you you? 169th_Viking Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 SAM-Smasher, Great help, thank you. I`ve got a AGP slot and no PciE,don`t know if that makes a difference. It`s a (gulp) Dell 8250 so I hope there is no problem with the power supply etc.Have no clue of the size. If there`s no issue,I`ll change the card before the summer is over. Thx again mate. :)
SAM-Smasher Posted May 13, 2005 Author Posted May 13, 2005 No problem buddy :) You can buy the X800XT PE 256 in either AGP or PCI-E format, for some reason the AGP one is more expensive :S I run the card on a 400W power supply, the card needs its own Molex power connection from the power supply, it seems to work fine and considering all the other crap I have draining power in my system it does the job fine. Though if you are going to upgrade your power supply get a 500W one mine is generating a large amount of heat, which isnt very good :) Good luck Just glad to be able to provide some useful info, im not very good at the techy stuff with aircraft and radars ect, but PC's im ok :) "I love smashing the crap out of those buggers on the ground who keep making a beeping sound on my RWR..... the bells the bells!!!!!!.... erm yeah.... SAM-Smasher Posted May 13, 2005 Author Posted May 13, 2005 I know I took advantage of a very recent 21st birthday to be able to afford it, I guess thats what I may call luck :) very daunting price to pay I agree. 1 "I love smashing the crap out of those buggers on the ground who keep making a beeping sound on my RWR..... the bells the bells!!!!!!.... erm yeah.... Really?!? :) I have XFX 6800 GT 256Mb on P4-3Ghz and 1Gb RAM and I'm really happy if FPS does not go below 30... which it does in any complex combat situation. And I dont have "settings whacked at max"... What is your visibility set to? Advanced fog? Effects? All on max? and you still have 43 FPS? What is your PFS if you fly over Krasnodar on the deck?

Thx again mate. :) If I am any indication the PSU IS an issue. My 8300 came with a sorry little 250 watter. But there is another thing- your case is likely to NOT cooperate with replacing that PSU at all. Finding a PSU with the correct fan placement was easy. But if your case is like mine- the PSU is totally enclosed behind metal except for the fan and the AC plug. I was not able to find a sufficient PSU that did not have a switch on the back. That switch will interfere with your case. To get my new PSU to work, I had to open the PSU up- remove the switch so the back was flush, and crimp the wires together. 169th_Viking Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 konkussion, Thx for answering. Seems like I have to work a little for my upgrade. I`ll find a sollution.
S77th-konkussion Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 No prob. I wouldn't want anyone to have to go through that fiasco blind like I did... 1 [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
tflash Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 Anyone else as happy as me? or am I just being a grubby little fanboy ;) I am also 100% happy with FC 1.1: an incredibly good product! I also find an overall improvement over 1.02, and the fact is I do play it even more often now! Although I prefer powerfull fast jets like Flanker and F-15, The nice little Froggy managed to win my sympathy. So, whether the next release is Flanker 3.0 or Frogger 1.2, I'd buy anyway! Orao Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 I didnt change my config since Lockon 1.0 was released. P4 2.4C GHz 1 Go of Ram and 9800 pro. Settings are always on medium by default. I have to say that I'm impressed with the gain of fps during ground attacks. Now I can even pass through the smoke and 20+ destroyed tanks wont bring my fps count down to 5. As a ground attack fan I especialy enjoy flying on Su-25T. It's an awesome plane. You did a good job and guess what you've just got your self a new customer for your next title. Thank you for sharing this passion with us ED.

I have EVERYTHING at maximum, vis distance and everything apart from water and scene file, I think ive dubbed the shadows down a little too. I will try Krasnodar at some point, something I havent tried yet :) And BBushe thats an interesting concept there, I wouldnt have thought of that! if someone would have posted that before it would have saved me some dosh ;) Looks like theres a pretty good all round response, I havent seen much cheering of how good it is, so I thought I would stir some up. Good job ED! "I love smashing the crap out of those buggers on the ground who keep making a beeping sound on my RWR..... the bells the bells!!!!!!.... erm yeah....
