brydling Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 I guess this has been asked before, but I couldn't find any thread discussing it. Will we be able to remove the virtual cockpit to use A-10C as the base for a simpit? The ultimate thing would be if there is a HUD-only view. HellMutt Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 HUD only I guess this has been asked before, but I couldn't find any thread discussing it. Is this what you were looking for ? Good luck, Bart i7 8700K @ 4.4Ghz, Radeon RX 6800, HP Reverb, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, MFG Crosswind pedals, Thrustmaster MFD's
Avilator Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 The facility for a HUD-only view already exists in FC2 and BS, so there is no reason to doubt that it will present in DCSW. What would be even cooler is if we simpit builders could export the HUD to a screen of its own to project onto a piece of glass. I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Deadman Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 +1 that would be really helpful https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
Scabbers Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 that would be awesome. but i am not sure who could afford the projetor to draw the hud....lol Now where is that speed brakes control again? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Deadman Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 you can use just an LCD monitor it has been done for Falcon 4.0:thumbup: https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
Scabbers Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 yah that would work but Avi stated to project it to a glass plate. so iw as following those lines. i have helped people build pits. :) Now where is that speed brakes control again? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
topdog Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 a highly contrasted display from a bright LCD monitor would do the trick like Deadman suggests, angle it at the glass, and display the information inverted, and it would reflect back off the glass like a HUD, albeit one with some limitations (probably wouldn't work too well under natural daylight for example). Totally different example/application of the technology, but here's someone using their mobile phone (with gps/accelerometers) to 'project' a HUD onto their car's windscreen with speed and navigation info: [ i7 2600k 4.6GHz :: 16GB Mushkin Blackline LV :: EVGA GTX 1080ti 11GB ] [ TM Warthog / Saitek Rudder :: Oculus Rift :: Obutto cockpit :: Acer HN274H 27" 120Hz :: 3D Vision Ready ]
G3 Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 you can already reposition the hud when in the Lalt+F1 view but i think it still moves when looking around with trackir seperate non moving hud view would be a nice addition
hassata Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 It doesn't move in the Su25 and A10 (possibly in the Russian fighters, but I haven't flown those in a while). The problem is in getting the correct zoom--because the FC2 pits aren't authentic 6 degrees such as BS. This should be a non issue with A-10C. With the A10, its not a problem, but the Su25 is harder to read because it is smaller (just as in the real Russian jets). Hopefully, we will be surprised with the pit building aspects of A-10C. As long as its up to par with BS, with a streamlined process of exporting to 2nd monitors and with less of a performance hit, I'm happy. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Pogo Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 One option that I am considering in my cockpit design is a Pico Projector like this one. http://www.amazon.com/3M-78-9236-7713-8-Pocket-Projector-MPRO120-33LBS/dp/B002NZG4BE/ref=pd_cp_e_1 This technology could be very useful for HUD projection. I am also considering using it in a rear projection setup for the MFDs and possibly the RWR, since I haven't found any LED or LCD solutions that don't mess up the main A-10 instrument panel layout. There isn't a lot of wiggle room for using 9" LCD screens for the MFDs. There isn't a lot of wiggle room for using 9" LCD screens for the MFDs. It won't work...that one is far too dim, especially in a normally lit room....room has to be virtually pitch black, and if you try to reflect it off glass, you can barely see it, even in a dark room.
brydling Posted September 16, 2010 Author Posted September 16, 2010 Oh, I am ashamed :smilewink: Sorry for the question! And about the pico projector thing.. We have that in our simulators for the radar screens. Works like a charm. I don't know which brand and model we have though.
