Yeah - at that range he's waaaay too close to effectively utilize the TGP I would have thought.

Here is an interesting one with A models performing a practice CSAR

I like how the pilots look at the Mavs over their shoulders just to watch them come off the rails.:D

I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Terrain! Pull Up! Pull Up!"

Does the lighting pod have 360 degree FOV? I'm guessing not, but will it atleast be able to track behind the aircraft? (I'm talking ingame)

System specifications: Computer, joystick, DCS world, Beer

Not sure in game but in real life, as long that there is nothing on the way, it got a very big field of view. If the target is not moving and once ground stabilize, it would stay lock to that point. If you notice on the first video, at one point the left main landing gear and the left wing get on the way but the pod did not loose track.

Same thing in the game. The gimbal limits are very large and view is obscured only by the aircraft fuselage and the pod itself.

How do they look behind? I've always thought there must be a second camera at the end, otherwise i make sense in how it could look backwards when the pods main body was in the way... (Thinking of LGB here)

Well, like I said the gimbals are very large :) The sensor itself is mounted on a ball turret at the front of the pod, and as you can probably imagine, it can look at some angle past pure vertical to the rear. I don't recall the numbers.

You can help maintain visual by banking/turning or other flight path modification as well.

In the case of the LGB, they maneuver the aircraft such that the target stays within the FOV until impact. This means they are usually banking away, and the pod would not have to look directly aft. If such a geometry were required for any reason, they would probably buddy lase the target.

Keep in mind this is obviously not the same pod but it uses the same concept or the seeker moves similarly

Also similar to the ABL turret

Notice how there is a 'cut' so the sensor can look backwards to some limit:

Wicked video. Imagine if DCS A-10 had audio like that?

Actually if You looked carefully GlowingAmram's 'Project 10' Promo trailer You would hear at 2:44 '...got a smoke. I'm looking at dangerous close now...' which sounds nearly same ;)

I actually did hear that when I turned up the volume to try and make out what was being said on the radios. And I also heard I got a smoke, and Danger close.
