shackman Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 (edited) You can tell just from hearing the voices over the radio that the situation was getting intense. Great audio, but low quality video through hud. But good none the less. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szX45PdUOmo Edited October 1, 2010 by shackman [sIGPIC]http://www.vrsimulations.com/images/sigbanners/vrs_supporter.png[/sIGPIC]
GGTharos Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 The Alpha can definitely carry a pod. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
shackman Posted October 1, 2010 Author Posted October 1, 2010 The Alpha can definitely carry a pod. Sorry didn't know that. [sIGPIC]http://www.vrsimulations.com/images/sigbanners/vrs_supporter.png[/sIGPIC]

159th_Viper Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Yeah - at that range he's waaaay too close to effectively utilize the TGP I would have thought. shackman Posted October 1, 2010 Author Posted October 1, 2010 Here is an interesting one with A models performing a practice CSAR [sIGPIC]http://www.vrsimulations.com/images/sigbanners/vrs_supporter.png[/sIGPIC]
Avilator Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Here is an interesting one with A models performing a practice CSAR I like how the pilots look at the Mavs over their shoulders just to watch them come off the rails.:D I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Skwurl Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Wicked video. Imagine if DCS A-10 had audio like that?
SmokeyTheLung Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Does the lighting pod have 360 degree FOV? I'm guessing not, but will it atleast be able to track behind the aircraft? (I'm talking ingame) System specifications: Computer, joystick, DCS world, Beer
shackman Posted October 1, 2010 Author Posted October 1, 2010 I like how the pilots look at the Mavs over their shoulders just to watch them come off the rails.:D I believe, but I could be wrong, that they watch the Mavericks come off the rails to make sure the weapon clears it, and they don't have a hung weapon on a hardpoint. Which video Skwurl? [sIGPIC]http://www.vrsimulations.com/images/sigbanners/vrs_supporter.png[/sIGPIC]
mvsgas Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Does the lighting pod have 360 degree FOV? I'm guessing not, but will it atleast be able to track behind the aircraft? (I'm talking ingame) Not sure in game but in real life, as long that there is nothing on the way, it got a very big field of view. If the target is not moving and once ground stabilize, it would stay lock to that point. If you notice on the first video, at one point the left main landing gear and the left wing get on the way but the pod did not loose track. To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
GGTharos Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Same thing in the game. The gimbal limits are very large and view is obscured only by the aircraft fuselage and the pod itself. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
zakobi Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 How do they look behind? I've always thought there must be a second camera at the end, otherwise i make sense in how it could look backwards when the pods main body was in the way... (Thinking of LGB here)
GGTharos Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Well, like I said the gimbals are very large :) The sensor itself is mounted on a ball turret at the front of the pod, and as you can probably imagine, it can look at some angle past pure vertical to the rear. I don't recall the numbers. You can help maintain visual by banking/turning or other flight path modification as well. Avilator Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 How do they look behind? I've always thought there must be a second camera at the end, otherwise i make sense in how it could look backwards when the pods main body was in the way... (Thinking of LGB here) In the case of the LGB, they maneuver the aircraft such that the target stays within the FOV until impact. This means they are usually banking away, and the pod would not have to look directly aft. If such a geometry were required for any reason, they would probably buddy lase the target. mvsgas Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Keep in mind this is obviously not the same pod but it uses the same concept or the seeker moves similarly _WpPO9_Zed0 Also similar to the ABL turret MmkYcEcSLvA To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. GGTharos Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Notice how there is a 'cut' so the sensor can look backwards to some limit: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
