Nu-NRG Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Startup is easy and it does not take 15 min ... once you are versed that is :D http://files.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/38337/ And this is a nice mission for startup training Aviate - Navigate - Communicate
Steel Jaw Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 There is an easy mode, it's called LockOn Platinum ;) LOL...true enough. Very true. Sorry I'm late. Steel Jaw Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Hey bud, if you want to engage in a 'manual release' when there's a hotty waiting upstairs, that's entirely up to you. Have fun with it. I don't blame you for being a peace freak, ignorance is bliss. There are many people paying dearly for you so you can have that attitude. Take a bong hit in their honor! Have fun. RTFM. Bulletstop Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 I am doing something wrong, it only takes me 6 minutes before I am rolling, including full ins and cdu alignment :) Damn need to work on this :). I too want to experience the full sim, why I always start cold and dark. However I too can see why some folks want a quick start option. Some folks just need that. It should be personal preference in my humble opinion. A kick butt home built machine unfortunately running a windows 7 OS.
rud Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 I wish we could mod the INS align time, that's all it would take to dial startups from about 6 minutes down closer to Ka-50 start times. In MP especially, I think having an option for shorter align times would be a real hit.
GGTharos Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 I think align times should remain realistic. Want to take off sooner? Stop alignment at 2 minutes and complete it in-flight. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Ptroinks Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 ...or just set the flight to "takeoff from runway"... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
hassata Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Just mod the mission to start on runway if you rather do without the start-up. You may want to have the crew chief requisition some K-Y Jelly though. Edit: I'm going to file that under telepathic snipe. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Ptroinks Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Heeey! My very first snipe :D! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
DocSigma Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 I love going through the process. I don't think I've ever started from the air or runway. It adds immensely to the realism; however, with that said, each to there own, and for some I'm sure getting in the air as quick as possible is a plus. I'm all for options in the sim that a player can take to make it most enjoyable for them. It adds to the player base which in turn gives combat simulations legs for the future. -NFlight- Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 No, but you can start the CDU before you start the engines. So when you got everything else up and running you are pretty much done with the alignment. Not true... as soon as you start either engine and the generator is coupled to the bus, the CDU will warm start and the whole alignment process starts over. Unless of course that was fixed in 1.1.0.7... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Win7 x64, Intel i7-970 6 Core, 12GB, ATI 5970, TrackIR 5 w/Clip, TM Warthog, Saitek Combat Pedals

PlainSight Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Not true... as soon as you start either engine and the generator is coupled to the bus, the CDU will warm start and the whole alignment process starts over. Unless of course that was fixed in 1.1.0.7... It wasn't. I start left engine, engage left AC switch and turn on EGI. It saves a little time. Then proceed to right engine start. [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Shaman Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Is there any checklist available other then one in the manual? I have great checklist for Black Shark that includes even keyboard shortcuts, but I do not remember who made it though :< 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
ErichVon Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 (edited) I can get out and taxi in full sim mode in 5 to 10 minutes, but I do not do the full tutorial setup. Why that works that way I do not know. I just get the minimum instruments that I need to get running and go. I use the multi-warnings light, right side console to guide me. The Nav warning and the ECS warning lights (whatever it is called) go out after takeoff. In flight, I have to click the far left switch in autopilot console to get automatic pilot to function, but the trim button on the joystick works pretty good all by itself. I do not do the proper sequence startup procedure. That is not to say I will not do the proper procedure when it is necessary. Primarily I just jump in and get it going and play with the game. As to doing it properly? I'm still doing the tutes and reading the manuals. LOL I like to hit the target F-key and watch the SAMs fire at me and try to learn how the AI stuff works. Best tactic I have found to save my hide, even with stores still on the wing, is dive for the deck at treetop level, full out dive, no brakes, full throttle. LOL! Fun game. I suppose I could rip a wing off doing that. (OFF TOPIC: Landings: I sometimes overshoot the runway in the grass on short airfields. I try to land just a hair above the stall warning horn as to airspeed and get on the concrete immediately. I have no issue getting it out of the grass to the taxiway. Saw that somewhere where some guys were stuck in the grass. I have lost tires, even entire wheel assemblies. Shut down the engines while out in the grass. I go do something else for 10 minutes or so. Come back and all wheels and tires are good to go. Startup and taxi out of the grass to rearm on the tarmac. ???? Why is that? Works for me.) I usually fly in full sim mode. And I am still a newbie. Online, it seems startup time depends how that particular server sortie is setup. In GAME mode the process is much simpler. Left Win+Home , I think gets it all going quickly. In Full Sim Mode, Alt+Home for left engine and Ctrl Home for right engine is not how it is done in the real jet. I bet they use a GM key with a computer security chip in it. Erich Wow it took me 15 Minutes to Start the Plane is there an easy mode ? :helpsmilie: Edited April 14, 2011 by ErichVon
ErichVon Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Well, not to knock ED... Ever play the old Micrprose sims? It came with a labeled, keyboard cutout; a setup manual and a Operators Manual as to how-to doing the game and before CDs were invented or before CDs were marketed to anything with a comparable CD reader and ballpark $30 USA, a hundred years ago. LOL! Well, if you have the time to spend 48 hour days learning this game, reading the forums and reading the manuals, ED does a pretty good job. AND the community for the most part is friendly. Maybe that is because the meaner lot of guys prefer arcade sims. Erich ----------------snipped--------------- - DCS modules should come with printable startup checklist with cockpit panel location cues so players could print it out and start doing manual startups from the very first day
DayGlow Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Note that Eagle Dynamics made you a favor and put GAME MODE just for you and alikes (COD4 crowd?). That is if you obviously belong to a group that do not understand the concept of STUDY FLIGHT SIMULATOR. I am a pilot in real life, and I paid ED to make this application to simulate real cockpit and its operations as realistically as possible. Why? Because it gives my brain a lot of exercise even when I am studying a/c that I won't fly in real life. I do understand why the have implemented GAME MODE for people like you - use it - do not rant about our needs. STUDY SIMULATOR is our part of this application, obviously what DCS was built for in the first place. Wow, you resurrected a 6 month old thread to get this shot in? "It takes a big man to admit he is wrong...I'm not a big man" Chevy Chase, Fletch Lives 5800X3D - 64gb ram - RTX3080 - Windows 11
