Avilator Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Greetings fellow simmers and pitbuilders! I am doing research before starting a business. I would like to know about how many people on these boards would be interested in purchasing plans or manufactured panels for the A-10. I'd also like suggestions as to where I can advertise my new venture. Thanks for your help! -Avilator out I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Terrain! Pull Up! rocketeer Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 It depends on the price and how comprehensive the products are. For the plans is it just the dimension of the pit frame front and sides, or it include details like the dimension and drawing of each panel that we can print? For the 'manufactured' panels do you mean just the acrylic pieces with holes for the switches, or it includes the aluminium back plates, engraved lettering? without the price and the details of the product we can't tell. Avilator Posted October 13, 2010 Author Posted October 13, 2010 To begin with, the plans will be for each panel. ATM, I am leaving the dimensions of the side frames up to the end user to customize around the seat that they choose. The "manufactured" panels will either be just acrylic with no backlighting. The more expensive route will include both back plates and light plates. At this time, I have no information on pricing, but that will be forthcoming. Thank you for your responses. Deadman Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 what do you mean by ATM ? https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
Avilator Posted October 13, 2010 Author Posted October 13, 2010 At the moment. I don't know in the future if I will be offering a seat. If I do, it will be custom to those dimensions. Also, as time goes on, I will be offering more complex products, including finished panels with switches and eventually instruments and possibly a HUD. y2kiah Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Can I vote for you developing the HUD first? :) Personally I would skip trying to sell panel plans. You're basically just taking free information, organizing it and slapping a price on it. I'm not sure many will buy into that. I would go right for selling a finished product. The plans have very little value IMO, in fact the community has deemed the value to be in the neighborhood of zero dollars - but the physical object has real value. Anyway, good luck with this endeavor!

Anyway, good luck with this endeavor! You make a solid point about the plans. But since I have seen people ask for dimensions, and some people may want to manufacture things themselves, I'll probably release the products concurrently. As for the HUD, I have absolutely no experience with programming, electronics, or optics.:( I plan on talking to the robotics club at my school as a whole. It's one of the largest extra-curricular ventures on campus and fully funded by the school. It's also one of the first FIRST robotics teams and has been to a world championship and several national championships since the early nineties. So there will be no problem recruiting some good people from there. I'm a mechanical guy (aerospace engineering major), hence why I started with the panels. I have to research how to pull the data from the sim and how to make the HUD work. Not exactly easy when you're a college sophomore in multiple clubs and have a job. Anyhow, watch this space for more info! P.S. Rep point if you can guess my school!:D Avilator out. I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Terrain! Pull Up! Pull Up!" rocketeer Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 To begin with, the plans will be for each panel. You should offer discount for those buying plans for all panel. I can't imagine if one would just buy the plans for a few panels, then figure out the rest himself? My A10C cockpit thread

I can't imagine if one would just buy the plans for a few panels, then figure out the rest himself? I meant to say that my set of plans will include the dimensions and hole locations of each panel, not just the overall dimensions of the pit. I forgot to mention earlier that I'll be offering DZUS fastener replicas as well. I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Terrain! Pull Up! Pull Up!" memento10 Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 IMHO, I would be interested in buying the panels if the quality and value was there. That would mean properly backlightable, CNC'd, durable materials etc. I would either be interested in just the backplates, or with the switches at $2.50 each... otherwise I'd just buy the switches myself and install them. As far as pricing, for the backplate, 7 inches by 7 inches with about 10 holes for swiches, backlightable etc I would pay around $15. Just my opinion.
Avilator Posted October 14, 2010 Author Posted October 14, 2010 Input taken, thank you. I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Terrain! Pull Up! Pull Up!"
